2025-26 Big South Basketball Conference Champion Best Bet

Big South Conference College Basketball Best Bet

The Big South Conference has a team that’s evolved into an absolute wagon. High Point made the jump to D1 basketball in 1999-2000. The Panthers had a few nice seasons and saw a couple of coaches move on to other programs. High Point brought in Alan Huss as head coach for the 2023-24 season, and he’s taken High Point to heights they’ve never achieved. The Panthers won 27 games in their first year under Huss. Last year? The Panthers secured their first NCAA tournament bid and won 29 games.

Will High Point win the regular season for the third straight year? Will UNC-Asheville step up? Is Radford ready for a move back to the top? We’ve reviewed the rosters and have a play that you’ll want to lock up before the season tips off.

High Point to win the Big South Conference

The Big South Conference is High Point’s to lose this year. The Panthers only return one starter, but they’ve added through the portal and built from within.

Graduate guard Chase Johnston returns to the High Point starting lineup for another season. Johnston averaged 6.9 points and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 42.5% from three-point range. He’ll be joined in the back court by SEMO transfer, Rob Martin. Martin was in the running for OVC Player of the Year last year. He averaged 14.8 points, 2.5 boards, and 4.5 assists per game at SEMO. He’s among the favorites for Big South Player of the Year.

High Point also added Vincent Brady II from Missouri State and Conrad Martinez from Arizona. Both should play key roles in the High Point backcourt. Sophomores Mavrik Miller and David Fonville also return to High Point this year. The starting roles in the backcourt are defined, and there are solid rotation options available off the bench.

Senior swingman Scotty Washington transferred in from CSUN this year. He scored 14.6 points per game and was an honorable mention for the All-Big West Conference last season. The Panthers also brought in senior forward Babacar Diallo from Kansas City.

The biggest get for High Point this off-season was junior big man Youssoff Singare from UConn. Singare measures at 6’10” and weighs in at 230 lbs. He’ll be an absolute mountain in the middle for High Point this year. The Panthers also added forwards Cam’Ron Fletcher from Xavier and Owen Aquino from Liberty to round out their rotation in the post.

High Point has the best roster on paper in the Big South Conference this year. Their backcourt features a legit Player of the Year candidate. They have talent on the wings, and they also have muscle in the post. The talent and the system are a clear match.

The Panthers will likely be a chalky favorite at most books. The best option is to use the Panthers as a parlay piece with other big favorites to lock in a plus-money play. Other teams in the Big South Conference will have odds that look more playable, but High Point is the favorite for a reason. This isn’t a conference to get cute with.
