On Thursday, we split our results on the first inning action. After the weird pitching decision by the Brewers, we got exactly what we needed in the ALCS to cash our play. Now we look to sweep the board on our NRFI bets for October 17.
We’ve got a chance to see at least one team go home on Friday and we also have some NRFI and YRFI props for October 17. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 17
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Seattle Mariners
First Pitch – 6:08 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – FS1
The first three games of the ALCS gave us YRFIs and sometimes we saw runs on both sides. Despite all that early action, the teams didn’t seem to have their offenses clicking on all cylinders. They would have big dry spells with giant outbrusts at random times. That seems like an unsustainable model, which is why we got in on the NRFI for Game 4. That one cashed and I think there is hope that we see that a couple games in a row here.
Another reason why we like the NRFI here is the pitching matchup. Bryce Miller gets the ball for the Mariners to start this one. Although he did give up a first inning run last time he pitched (which was also against the Blue Jays), he also only allowed two hits in that outing. The 6.0 innings were sharp and the leadoff home run can almost be looked at as a fluke. Kevin Gausman meanwhile is looking to repeat his last performance. He kept the Mariners scoreless until a 6th inning Cal Raleigh homer. There’s a good chance he can give us another three quick outs.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 17: No (TBD)
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
First Pitch – 8:38 pm EST
Dodger Stadium – Los Angeles, CA
Broadcast – TBS
I’m officially done trusting that the Brewers know what they are doing. After giving up early runs in plenty of games this postseason, they decided to go with reliever Aaron Ashby in a must-win Game 3. He, of course, allowed an easy first inning run. Now they are yet again unsure of what they are doing pitching-wise on Friday. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Ashby again. Regardless as to who it is, I do think that the Dodgers will get to them in the first inning.
In the bottom of the first, Shohei Ohtani gets the ball for the first time in the series. In his lone postseason start, he allowed three runs in 6.0 innings – which comes out to a 4.50 ERA. He didn’t look awful in the start, but he’s hardly the lights out guy they’d be looking to if this was a must-win game for them. I think the Brewers will allow a run, but even if they don’t, Ohtani is a nice insurance policy for NRFI bettors.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 17: Yes (-145)
