MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 27
New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
loanDepot park – Miami, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV
Eury Perez will be the first pitcher on the hill in this one. While his season stats are just okay, he has looked unstoppable as of late. In his last two games, he’s thrown 9.0 innings without having allowed a run. Furthermore, he’s only allowed three hits and a single walk while striking out 15 batters. With numbers like that, you’d take him against just about any offense at this point. That point is even more true when it comes to the Mets, who are stumbling to the finish line in typical LOL Mets fashion.
While the Mets aren’t exactly on a burner right now, Clay Holmes is still putting up numbers. He has a respectable 3.66 ERA for the year and has been two straight outings without having let up a run. The big difference for him is that his outings have come out of the pen for the last two. Facing Miami is a good way to be welcomed back to the rotation. The Marlins rank below league average in run scoring and first inning run scoring. As a result, I trust Holmes can find us a quick three outs.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 27: No (TBD)
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves
First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – MLB TV
Spencer Strider may not have turned in the Cy Young calibur year Braves fans were hoping for, but he’s still a damn good pitcher. He’s allowed three or less runs in each of his last five outings and only once did he come in higher than two runs. That includes two games with the playoff bound Cubs and one with the Tigers, who are close to a spot themselves. Now he gets the worst offense in all of baseball. The Pirates are the worst of the five teams in baseball that have less than 4.00 runs per game.
The Braves may be coming on late with the bats, but they are still a not a great offensive team. To make matters worse for them, they are in the bottom third of the league in scoring in the first inning. Now Bubba Chandler will look to keep that momentum going. He’s allowed just one run over his last two starts. In those 11.0 innings, he allowed just three hits and no walks to go along with 13 strikeouts. With the Braves being a big strikeout team, he should be able to work himself out of any jam he gets into.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 27: No (TBD)
