Two AFC foes lock horns this Sunday with new, but familiar faces under center as Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season continues. One is looking to write a final chapter to his storied career. The other just wants a shot at writing a decent one of his own. Our Pittsburgh Steelers at N.Y. Jets Preview and Predictions get you up to speed for this interesting matchup.
The Steelers confused everyone last season by signing both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson to lead their offense. That confusion was short-lived as the two guided the Steelers to a 10-7 record and a trip to the playoffs. Pittsburgh has shipped both quarterbacks off this offseason and will turn the ball over to Aaron Rodgers who will face the team he spent all of last season with this week..
It’s been a trying run for the Jets for almost a decade. The last time they had a winning record was back in 2015 when Ryan Fitzpatrick led them to a 10-6 record. They enter this season trying to climb out the cellar and are hoping Justin Fields can get them there. The young arm will have help from one of the better defenses in the league on the other side of the ball. New York’s defense allowed the fifth-fewest yards per game last season.

Aaron Rodgers Over 201.5 Passing Yards (-110 via CAESARS)
Rodgers did not have to wait long for his revenge game against his former team. The future Hall of Famer had a rocky run in two seasons with the Jets. One of which he missed entirely after a freak injury on his first drive in a Jets uniform. However, despite his troubled past there, he was able to throw for at least 202 yards in 11 of his 17 appearances last year. Overall, Rodgers averaged 229.2 passing yards per game last year.

On top of that, Russell Wilson accounted for seven games with at least 202 passing yards for the Steelers last season while Justin Fields pitched in another two. Wilson racked up 264 yards against this tough Jets defense. It’s not hard to expect Rodgers to get there as well with the same weapons his predecessor had at his disposal.
Justin Fields Under 8.5 Rushing Attempts (-110 via ESPN BET)
There’s no doubt that Fields has been dangerous with his legs since making his NFL debut with the Bears four seasons ago. The former Ohio State Buckeye is averaging 8.36 rushing attempts per game over his career. However, he only breached this mark in three of six starts with the Steelers last season.
He has a tough draw this week as he faces a familiar defense in Pittsburgh that allowed the ninth-fewest rushing attempts per game (25.7) in the league last year. The Jets would probably like to see Breece Hall get a majority of the carries in this game which doesn’t leave a lot left for Fields.
