Being a degen is a core principle of our SGPN family. Well, what’s more degen than sweating out how many 180s will be thrown in a darts match? Or how many kills a player will get in Call of Duty? Allow us to introduce our Degens Only Play of the Day, a pick so obscure, it will have you friends questioning your sanity.
Every day, we scour sportsbooks and DFS sites for that one special play off the beaten path. Today, we turn our attention to the Badminton World Federation as they begin their World Champions tournament in Paris. Here we’ll focus one of the few decently priced matchups on the slate for tomorrow’s action..
BWF World Championships Betting Pick: Degens Only Play of the Day
Brian Yang Over Nhat Nguyen (-135 via ESPN BET)
Monday, August 25th, 2:40pm ET
Nguyen enters this match 30th in the overall rankings. He’s hit a rough patch as of late, losing six of his last ten matches. However, he did place third in the Orleans Master tournament early in March. So far this season, the Irish national has a 12- 10 record. In his most recent appearance, Nguyen advanced to the Round of 16 in the Victor China Open, but was eliminated by Shi Yuqi in that round. He has failed to make it out of the Round of 32 in two of his last three tournaments.
Yang comes in 31st overall in the BWF World rankings. However, he is ranked 15th in the HSBC Race to Finals standings. The Canadian is 5-5 in his last ten matches and is 17-17 on the year. Yang’s best finish this year was a 2nd place in the YONEX US Open in June. He has advanced to the Round of 16 in two of his last three matches.
These two have only faced each other twice in their careers and Yang has won them both. In fact, he has won all three games he has played against Nguyen. If you want to get spicy, you can take Yang to win 2-0 on ESPN BET at +185 for a little more value.
Good luck on this and all of your plays today. We’ll be back with another Degens Only Play of the Day tomorrow. While you’re here, check out some of my other contributions to the SGPN.
