Toronto Blue Jays vs Pittsburgh Pirates
Start Time: 6:40 PM EST
At least on paper, we should be due for a pitchers’ duel tomorrow in Pittsburgh as the Pirates host the Toronto Blue Jays to start a three-game interleague series. Toronto’s Kevin Gausman and Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes are both two-time All-Stars, and both are having solid seasons, with Skenes on pace to perhaps win his first of what should be many Cy Young Awards.
Yet, I’m fading Skenes tomorrow. And it’s not just because he only lasted four innings in his last start, and it’s not just because the Jays are the second-best team in the majors this season, improbably. But those reasons certainly help.
I’m fading Skenes’s strikeout line on Monday because Toronto hitters don’t strike out. With 6.68 strikeouts per game, Toronto’s batters whiff the least of all teams in the majors this season. Under 6.5 strikeouts, it is, for Skenes tomorrow.
