MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Urijah Faber A1 Combat 29
Urijah Faber’s A1 Lightweight Fight: Erick Sanchez vs Humberto Bandenay
Card Start Time: Friday (8/1), 10:00pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
A1 Combat has put together a solid card in California for Friday. On it is plenty of former UFC talent, but my play on this card is to exploit people’s trust in those resumes and fade the former UFC fighter.
Humberto Bandenay busted onto the UFC scene with a big head kick KO. While that helped to build him a reputation, it wasn’t an accurate one. Bandanay was always a fighter who struggled a bit on the feet and really needed to get the ground game going. However, he’s fighting a guy who is not particularly easy to take down.
Erick Sanchez has some excellent footwork and head movement that makes it hard for opponents to get close enough to him. Additionally, the only real holes he’s shown on his shot defense have come when he throws flying knees. If he is able to limit those opportunities for Bandenay, he should be the much better on the feet.
