We’ve got a very quiet day in the sports world tomorrow, with only three MLB games and one on the WNBA hardwood. But I’ve got a winner for that one game. Here are your WNBA predictions and preview for Thursday, July 31st.
WNBA Predictions & Preview For Thursday, July 31st
Golden State Valkyries vs Washington Mystics
Start Time: 7:30 PM EST
By any measure, the expansion Golden State Valkyries are having a dream season, winning 12 of their franchise’s first 25 games. And the advanced stats have them ranked as an above-average team. Very impressive.
However, things are about to get bumpier for the Valkyries. That’s because earlier this week, their All-Star forward Kayla Thornton suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice. There goes their leading scorer and rebounder. Poof.
Golden State has won two of the three games since she went down, which is admirable. But it’s bound to catch up to a team that was punching above its weight to begin with.
Tomorrow night in Washington could be the night that luck starts to catch up to them. The Mystics are a very strong 9-5 at home in the CareFirst Arena, while Golden State is 4-9 away from home.
My line for this game, if Thornton were playing, is Washington -1.5. With her on the sidelines, I think the home team Mystics cover the 3.5-point spread for us.
Best Bet: Washington -3.5 (-115)
Overall Record: 35-38 (48%)
Profit (based on $100/bet): -($581.66)
Return on Investment: -8%
