Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for July 29
Jonathan Cannon – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts
This projection for Cannon is laughably low. Cannon is coming off a game against the Rays in which he only managed to get through 4.1 innings, but still fanned nine batters. That was a bit of an outlier for him, but even with a dud in there, he is striking out 5.33 batters per game in his last three. Then we can add into the mix that the Phillies are striking out quite a bit lately. On Monday, White Sox starter Davis Martin hung seven on them. The game prior to that, Carlos Rodon picked up eight. Five for Cannon seems very managable.
Kamila Cardoso – Higher than 7.5 Rebounds
The lower number on Cardoso’s boards is undoubtedly due to the report that Angel Reese is likely to suit up for the Sky on Tuesday. However, I think that’s underselling what Cardoso can do on the boards – even with Reese in the game. The last game they played together was against Minnesota on the 22nd. Reese was good for 11 rebounds and Cardoso added 10. When they played Minnesota on the 12th, more of the same. Reese went for 11 and Cardoso pulled down 15. Washington and Chicago rank 8th and 10th in terms of field goal percentage in the league, so there should be plenty of second chances to go around.
Kelsey Plum – Higher than 5.5 Assists
I like this projection for two reasons – the trend and the narrative. For the former, Plum has picked up at least six dimes in each of her last four games. She’s averaged 6.75 over that four-game stretch of the season. The additional narrative is that she’ll likely be looking to set up Cameron Brink for some chances. With her returning from her brutal ACL tear, Plum is gonna want to get her going again.
