Apparently, there’s a UFC pay-per-view this coming Saturday. I say “apparently” because it’s being advertised as a big deal PPV, but that gets put into question when you look at the actual fight lineup. No title fights (unless you fall for the BMF Title nonsense). Not even a #1 contender fight. But will we still make money off the fights? Damn right. For my MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC 318, I’m dipping into the main event. Let’s get it on, c’mon!

MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC 318
UFC 318: Holloway vs Poirier 3
Start Time: Saturday – 6:00 PM EST – (ESPN2/ESPN/PPV)
As the title of the event alludes to, Saturday’s main event is a trilogy fight between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier. It is not, however, a rubber match, as Poirier beat Holloway in their two previous meetings in 2012 and 2019.
And when it comes to rematches (or triologies, in this case), the smart money goes on the winner of the previous fight(s). The fact that Poirier has announced this as his retirement fight (can’t wait to see his next one) is a bit of a concern, but I still expect him to be locked in on Saturday night in front of his home crowd.
Holloway bouncing between featherweight and lightweight is a bit of a concern, as Poirier will be the bigger and stronger man, as is the fact that he got knocked out in his last fight for the first time in a career that has been long on punishment. Poirier, with a + beside his name, is worth a stab on Saturday.
