I’m not much of a golf bettor, but I’m whiffing on the sports I’m supposedly well schooled in, so why not change things up? This year’s The Open Championship will be taking place in Ireland, and I’m backing a former winner who is Irish. That’s enough research, right?!
Shane Lowry won the 2019 version of this tournament, and he has consistently been a strong performer at The Open, with two other top-10 finishes outside of his championship. He has also had some very strong opening rounds at the tournament.
Which is what I’m betting on for Wednesday as The Open tees off. Lowry has shot under 70 four times to open The Open, including a 66 last year at Royal Troon. He doesn’t need to be the best golfer on Wednesday – a top-five finish will do for us to hit it big.
