Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres
Start Time: 9:40 PM EST
Speaking of things getting flipped on their heads, that’s the story of the San Diego Padres’ season. Their hot start turned into a 15-15 record over their last 30 games, 9-11 over their last 20, and 4-6 over their last 10. But, there’s good news in San Diego – the Washington Nationals are in town for a three-game series.
I was going to write that at least the Nationals are improved this season, but that isn’t true any longer, as they’ve had a worse recent spell than the Padres (11-19, 4-16, 2-8). The advanced stats hate them as well, ranking them near the bottom of the majors.
Not only are the Padres the better team in this matchup, they are also playing at home in Petco Park, where they have a 23-13 record, among the best home marks in the majors this season. Plus, they have rookie hurler Ryan Bergert starting tomorrow, who has a sparkling 1.88 ERA over limited work (24 innings) this season.
Taking all the data into consideration, the Padres should be about two runs better than the Nationals tomorrow night.
