MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 14

Chicago White Sox vs. Texas Rangers

First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV

One NRFI that I like for Saturday’s action comes to us from Arlington. A big part of that is the fact that I don’t have any faith that the White Sox can score, never mind score early. They rank 27th in the majors in runs per game at just 3.47. That won’t get much easier for them this weekend as they face Jacob deGrom. The legendary righty has found his old form this season with a 2.12 ERA and 0.92 WHIP. We’ve also seen a nice uptick in his strikeouts – notching eight with just two hits over 7.0 innings last time out.

The bottom of the inning will see the Rangers come to the plate and they haven’t been much better at scoring runs. They rank just one spot ahead of the White Sox at 26th (3.69 per game). However, they do have a bit easier of a pitching matchup in this one. Mike Vasil toes the rubber for just the second time in his MLB career. However, he’s already been posting multiple innings each time out. Over his last four appearances (12.0 innings), he’s allowed just two earned runs and struck out 11 batters.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 14: No (-130)

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – FOX

I’m doing the unthinkable when it comes to NRFI plays. I’m locking in a Yankees game for the fourth straight day. While it might seem crazy, we’ve kept a clear first in each of those first three selections – largely thanks to the Yankees offense going flat. They’ve scored just two runs combined over the last two games. Now they’ll face Hunter Dobbins, who has given them plenty of bulletin board material. However, he looked solid the last time he faced the Bombers, picking up the win and only giving up runs on a pair of dingers.

The bottom of the inning should be one we can trust to stay empty. The Red Sox also haven’t been hitting much lately. Despite being on a three-game win streak, they’ve managed just nine runs over that stretch. Carlos Rodon won’t help those numbers as he’s been solid on the year. He brings his 2.87 ERA into action on Saturday. He got hit around a bit last time out, but prior to that he had three solid outings. In those three outings, he had allowed just one earned run in 20.0 innings while striking out 26.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 14: No (-130)
