MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 13
Tampa Bay rays vs. New York Mets
First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Citi Field – Queens, NY
Broadcast – MLB TV
For our first NRFI selection, I’m taking a pair of teams that have been hitting pretty well. Still, I have some faith in the arms trying to keep them off the board in this one.
The first team to get their hacks are the Rays. They have been a decent hitting team – although they have struggled early in the game. They rank 19th in first inning scoring with just 0.43 runs per game. That shouldn’t improve as they face Clay Holmes. The Mets starter has a 2.95 ERA on the year and has been solid as of late. As a result, I expect them to get the NRFI started right here.
The bottom of the inning looks a little sweatier than the top half. For one, the Mets have been much better early on in the game and across the whole game as well. Additionally, the numbers for Taj Bradley aren’t quite as reassuring. Still, he has been pretty good as of late. If we avoid looking as his last game, where he admittedly got shelled, he had allowed just four runs over three games. In those 20.0 innings, he fanned 23 batters. If we see that version here, I think he’ll give us a blank opening frame.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 13: No (-120)
New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox
First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV
I’m doing the unthinkable when it comes to NRFI bets. For the third consecutive day, I’m playing an NRFI in a Yankees game. We cashed the first two with some solid arms on the hill for the Royals, and now we’ll lean on one in Boston. Garrett Crochet has been nothing short of amazing this year. In 88.0 innings, he’s posted 110 strikeouts. In addition to all that swing and miss, he’s been keeping runs off the boards as well. His ERA sits at 2.35 on the year, which gives me faith he can keep the bombers in the park for one inning.
In the bottom of the first, the Red Sox may be nearly as dangerous. However, I don’t mind throwing my hat in the ring with Ryan Yarbrough. Sure, the Red Sox got to him and got to him hard last time, but he had been so good prior to that. In the three games before that debacle, he had allowed only one earned run or less per game. Also, even in being shelled by the Red Sox, he kept a clean first frame. I expect him to do that again here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 13: No (-125)
