The UFC has just started a run of seven straight events outside of the UFC Apex, which means seven straight events with good fight lineups. That includes this coming Saturday in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena. For my MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC Atlanta, I’m getting in on a (hopefully) live dog in the co-main event. MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC Atlanta
UFC Fight Night: Usman vs Buckley (aka UFC Atlanta)
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST – (ESPN/ESPN+)
This week’s UFC card should be named UFC Fight Night: Former Champion, as three of them appear in the top four fights of the night. And I’m picking against the one competing in the co-main event, Rose Namajunas.
You never know what you’re going to get with ‘Thug’ Rose, as sometimes she just doesn’t show up mentally for a fight. I’m especially concerned now that she’s competing at flyweight instead of strawweight, where she previously ruled the roost. This week, she gets a younger (by five years), physically stronger fighter in Miranda Maverick, who has four straight fights and six of seven. I think Maverick can use that strength of hers to grind out a victory over Namajunas, and I love the number we’re getting her for.
