NBA First Scorer Props – March 10
Indiana Pacers vs. Chicago Bulls
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
United Center – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – NBA TV
We’ve been tailing the Bulls, who are last in the NBA in all the major early game metrics lately. The reason being that Nikola Vucevic, as the worst tip guy in the NBA, was out injured and Zach Collins was putting up numbers in his place. Well, Vucevic is back and now it’s time to fade again. He’s winning just 14.6% of his tips, which is just about half of what Myles Turner is pulling down. In addition, the Pacers have a 9.3% lead over the Bulls when it comes to scoring the first hoop. The futility of the Bulls should be enough to play the Pacers here at -140.
If we’re going with a specific player, there is no better one to play than the aforementioned Myles Turner. For one, Nikola Vucevic is beat up and has never been the best defender anyways. As a result, he should have some easy buckets early on. Not only that, but he’s also been active in the early game. He’s taken the team’s first shot in each of the last three games. With all of those indicators, and the number as high as it is, you have to like Turner.
First Scorer Bet for March 10: Myles Turner (+700)
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Brooklyn Nets
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Barclays Center – Brooklyn, NY
Broadcast – NBA TV
The Lakers are another spot I like here to score first at -140. Sure, Jaxson Hayes, along with the vast majority of their bigs, is out hurt. However, Jarred Vanderbilt will be taking the jump for just the second time this year. He won his only other against Al Horford, who isn’t half bad on jumpballs. Plus, even if that’s not good enough to get the first possession over Nick Claxton, the Lakers have a good chance of getting an early stop. The Nets are one of the worst teams in the league at converting their first bucket chances (25th overall).
If we are going with the Lakers, let’s take a look at some of the bench reinforcements. Three starters are out hurt and a fourth is questionable, leaving only Austin Reaves as a sure thing. Rather than go with him at a reduced number, I like him to dish to another outside shooter in Dalton Knecht. Knecht is no stranger to letting it fly and the Nets have allowed 13.7 three-pointers per game over their last three. Let’s get him here in a step up spot for the Lakers.
First Scorer Bet for March 10: Dalton Knecht (+900)
