Oregon Ducks
Oregon’s high-powered offense, averaging 35.92 points per game, will face off against Ohio State’s stingy defense, which has allowed just 11.4 points per game. The Ducks’ offense is led by Gabriel, who holds the FBS record with 187 career touchdowns. Oregon’s roster is filled with talented players, including running back Jordan James. James has rushed for 1,253 yards this season, and wide receiver Tez Johnson, who has caught 866 yards worth of passes.
Despite their impressive offense, Oregon’s defense has shown vulnerabilities, particularly in the red zone, where they rank 79th nationally. The Ducks will need to shore up their defense to contain Ohio State’s explosive offense.
Ohio State Buckeyes
The No. 8 seeded Ohio State Buckeyes, led by quarterback Will Howard, are looking to avenge their earlier loss to Oregon and keep their national championship hopes alive. Ohio State’s defense has been on an unprecedented streak. They have not allowed a passing touchdown since their Week 7 matchup against Oregon. The Buckeye’s defense is ranked No. 1 in the FBS, having allowed the fewest yards all season.
Ohio State’s offense, which has been inconsistent at times, will need to be firing on all cylinders to keep up with Oregon’s high-powered offense. The Buckeyes’ running back Treveyon Henderson, who rushed for 87 yards in the earlier matchup against Oregon, will be key in controlling the clock and keeping the Ducks’ offense off the field.
College Football Playoff Quarterfinal: Ohio State vs Oregon Preview and Predictions
Ohio State -2.5 (-110)
This matchup has all the makings of a classic, with two high-powered offenses facing off against each other. However, Ohio State’s stingy defense may be the difference-maker in this game. The Buckeyes’ ability to shut down Oregon’s passing attack could be the key to their victory. I think Ohio State avenges their loss from earlier in the season, lay the points with the Buckeyes.
Treveyon Henderson Over 52.5 Rushing Yards (-114)
Treveyon Henderson has been a workhorse for the Buckeyes this season. Oregon’s defense has struggled against the run at times, allowing over 150 rushing yards per game. This gives Henderson plenty of opportunities to have a big game. I expect Ohio State’s game plan to control the tempo with the run game and keep Oregon’s high-powered offense off the field. Plus, this number is too low. Henderson has gone over this number in 11 of 13 games this season including going for 87 rushing yards vs this Oregon team back in October.
