NBA First Scorer Props – November 20
Chicago Bulls vs. Milwaukee Bucks
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Fiserv Forum – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – ESPN
There isn’t a better team in the NBA to fade on the first bucket right now than the Bulls. They rank dead last in tip wins with just a 7.1% success rate. They are a little better on the first score with a 21.4% success rate. However, that’s still good enough for dead last in the league. Things won’t get easier for them in Milwaukee. The Bucks rank in the top five in tip wins and top 10 in first buckets. A league average team would be easy to tail against the Bulls, let alone a team that is so high up the stat sheets.
If we’re going with a player on the Bucks, there is likely not a better spot than Brook Lopez. He is the only player to appear in the play log for the Bucks in the first three shots in each of the last two games. He took the first shot again in their last game. In addition to the action he’s been getting, he also fits the bill for someone who scores on Chicago early. Their last two games they gave up first scores to centers Jalen Duren and Alperen Sengun. With Lopez being the man in the middle as well as a guy who can hit from range, he should be a great value here.
First Scorer Bet for November 20: Brook Lopez (+650)
New York Knicks vs. Phoenix Suns
Tipoff – 10:00 pm EST
Footprint Center – Phoenix, AZ
Broadcast – ESPN
As much as the Bulls are a team to fade, the Suns are a team to tail. Jusuf Nurkic currently ranks second in the NBA in tip win percentage – only behind Jarrett Allen. He and his fill-ins on the Bucks are currently winning 78.8% of all of the tips. They’re scoring first well above league average as well. The other side of this equation should only assist in them scoring first again. The Knicks are a sub-par team on all the early game indicators. As a result, we’ll back the home team to get on the board first on Wednesday’s night cap.
Last time the Suns played, we backed Ryan Dunn to score first. He had taken one of their first three shots in five straight games. He didn’t get the first score in that game, but he did again take one of the Suns first three shots. He’s now taken one of the first three shots in each of their last six games. With Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal still on the shelf, this is a solid spot to grab someone with inflated odds like Dunn.
First Scorer Bet for November 20: Ryan Dunn (+800)
