Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – August 17
Ty France – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
This one may come in as a surprise for some people – after all, he is a Pick’Em Scorcher play at 1.23x. However, France has pretty much only been ripping extra-base hits as of late. Although he isn’t getting many hits, over half of his August hits have been doubles or better.
In this game, he’ll face Michael Wacha, and he seems to love swinging off the guy. He’s a career 9-for-18 against him with over half of those hits going for extra-bases. Pencil him in for a double today and thank me later.
Yordan Alvarez – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Alvarez has been a touch cold as of late. In fact, he’s come in lower than this projection in each of his last three games. He hasn’t had a run of games without at least two total bases of this long since the middle of July. And while this may seem like we’re just playing the “he’s due” card, he also has a great matchup to break out here. He’s faced Chris Flexen 19 times in his career, going 6-for-17 (.353). Of those six hits, half of them have left the park. Clearly he sees Flexen well and I expect him to clear this with one extra-base hit in there somewhere.
JT Realmuto – Lower than 1.5 Total bases
I wrote about Realmuto’s streak of hitting singles in on Thursday. He had a double in two of his last three games at the time and people were clammoring that he was getting back to being an offensive threat. Well, he’s followed that up with hits in back-to-back games, but still didn’t top this projection in either of those two. In fact, he now has come in higher than this projection just four times since the beginning of June. The pitching matchup is almost irrelevant here, but I do like Mackeniw Gore anyways.
