The 2024 NFL Draft is this week! We are a week into the new league year, and the NFL landscape has changed dramatically. There have been 14 trades, countless signings, and big-name releases already. The quarterback carousel was spinning with several quarterbacks on the move via trade. There were so many trades that we had to do this three-round 2024 NFL Mock Draft with Trades. How many quarterbacks go in Round 1?
The average is around three quarterbacks get drafted in the first round. Five is usually the max we see in Round 1 based on the last two decades. But we could see as many as six in this year’s draft. It’s unlikely, but there are a ton of QB-needy teams. They say it is important to do your shopping in free agency so you don’t go to the NFL Draft hungry. That is the case with some teams but definitely not with others.

2024 NFL Mock Draft – David Heilman Final Mock Draft
Several teams have glaring needs that we fully expect them to try to fill early in the draft. The Minnesota Vikings watched Kirk Cousins move to Atlanta and quickly signed Sam Darnold. No one expects them to roll him out all season. Brian Daboll and company are reportedly “done with Daniel Jones” and have buyer’s remorse. Do we expect them to roll with Daniel Jones or Drew Lock this season? Let’s look at some odds and then do our mock.

Round 1
# | Team | Pick | Pos | College |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Bears via CAR | Caleb Williams | QB | USC |
Caleb Williams has always been the pick. Not only is he a higher-graded prospect than Justin Fields, but the financial impact of the rookie salary is huge. We saw that play a factor in several quarterback trades. Shane Waldren gets to work with Caleb Williams, and the Bears have done a fantastic job building around him. | ||||
2 | Commanders | Jayden Daniels | QB | LSU |
Jayden Daniels fits this Kliff Kingsbury offense like a glove. Dan Quinn is also a defensive coach who understands the pressures a rushing quarterback like a Jalen Hurts' presents. Daniels outplayed Drake Maye this season by a landslide, and that includes his ability as a passer. Maye's resume lacks a lot of signature wins and leaves him more of a projection. Jayden has gotten better each year and brings a ton of experience on top of a huge upside. | ||||
3 | Patriots | JJ McCarthy | QB | Michigan |
Here it is—the first surprise of the draft. J.J. McCarthy ends up with the New England Patriots. I could see a scenario where they trade back to 6 with New York. The Giants end up with Maye or Daniels, and the Patriots get McCarthy, a young player who can sit behind Jacoby Brissett as they try to build up this roster. New England's roster looks like an NFL expansion team. They are probably two years out from being a year out. | ||||
4 | Cardinals | Marvin Harrison Jr. | WR | Ohio State |
Cardinals and Marvin Harrison Jr. have been the second easiest mock selection all year. Unless Arizona trades out, this is the pick. Harrison Jr. is an absolute STUD! | ||||
5 | Chargers | Malik Nabers | WR | LSU |
As much as the Chargers want to run the ball, they still need at least one pass-catcher. Nabers offers them a true #1 wide receiver to pair with Quentin Johnston and Joshua Palmer. They have a stud left tackle. They can address the right tackle on Day 2. Of course, this is a great trade-back spot, and a lot of mock drafts have the Chargers trading back. It will take two to tango and will depend on what happens in front of them. Nabers is just too good to pass up. | ||||
6 | Giants | Drake Maye | QB | UNC |
I have Drake Maye falling, but not that far. Jayden Daniels had a historic season, and J.J. McCarthy won a National Championship. Maye and the Giants have been connected for a long time. New York could end up trading up for him. If he is available, New York runs the card up. They are looking to get out of the Daniel Jones contract, and Maye really fits this Daboll offense. If four quarterbacks go ahead of New York, they will be looking at Marvin Harrison Jr. or Malik Nabers. Not bad options for a team that currently has one of the worst WR rooms in the league. | ||||
7 | Titans | Joe Alt | OT | Notre Dame |
The Tennessee Titans have been extremely aggressive this offseason. They will have great options at 7, including trading back. Brock Bowers, Rome Odunze, or the top defensive player will all be tempting. But Joe Alt is the pick. This team needs help at Tackle in a bad way, and Joe Alt is a dream pick at 7. They have done a nice job building around Will Levis with weapons and some interior offensive line help. Getting him a blue-chip left tackle is the pick! | ||||
8 | Falcons | Dallas Turner | ED | Alabama |
If they stick and pick, this is going to be the first defense player, I think, Edge or Corner at the 8 spot. I did see a theory of taking Rome Odunze here and just loading up on offense. I don't exactly hate that either, but Morris wants a pass rush, and he gets his pick of the litter. They are already heavily invested in the offense with all of their recent first-round picks. | ||||
9 | Bears | Rome Odunze | WR | Washington |
The Bears are doing everything they can to support Caleb Williams, and for me, it is either Tackle or Wide Receiver. Odunze offers a young weapon to grow with Williams, as Allen is a short-term fit. Odunze is a polished player and one of the more mature prospects. This offense will need some help on the line, but man, this is forming up to be a very fun team. | ||||
10 | Jets | Taliese Fuaga | OT | Oregon State |
The New York Jets will have plenty of options here, with potentially four quarterbacks going ahead of them. They added Tyron Smith, but he is a one-year player with a lengthy injury history. Adding their future left tackle with the 10th pick is pretty ideal. Fuaga could kick in to guard and give them depth at both Tackle spots in year one. Brock Bowers would be the other option here or Byron Murphy. Sticking with Fuaga who gives them a long-term option at a key position for their future. | ||||
11 | Vikings | Michael Penix Jr. | QB | Washington |
Minnesota looks to be positioning for a trade-up, But nothing is guaranteed, and the cost might just be too much. Ideally, they would like to trade up to 3 or 5 for Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels. They have been heavily linked to J.J. McCarthy. But this team could end up having to go with the QB5. They are not going to give Las Vegas or Denver a chance at Penix. Penix is a natural passer with a big arm and is highly praised for being such a cerebral player. He would be a perfect fit in Minnesota, and he comes with plenty of experience. | ||||
12 | Broncos | Jared Verse | EDGE | Florida State |
The Denver Broncos defense needs some pass rush, and Jared Verse would fill that need—a violent player with strong hands and a high motor. Verse is strong against the run and is a powerful bull-rush pass rusher. Denver's ideal move is to trade back and get a Michael Penix or Bo Nix late round 1 plus a 2nd round pick. They have no 2nd, and this pick is likely on the block. | ||||
13 | Raiders | Quinyon Mitchell | CB | Toledo |
Quinyon Mitchell has made a strong case to be the #1 Cornerback in this class. Mitchell has ideal size and length for the position. He showed at the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine that he measures up against the rest of the class. There is a strong chance he is the top DB off of the board, and this fits a screaming need for Las Vegas. The Raiders paid Gardner Minshew a ton of money, and there is a very good chance he starts for them this year. | ||||
14 | Saints | J.C. Latham | EDGE | Alabama/b> |
There is a good chance that Ryan Raymczyk will retire soon, possibly this year. New Orleans has other questions about the offensive line. Latham can come in on day 1 and start for them. He has some position flexibility as well. Latham comes from Alabama and the SEC, and he brings great experience with him. | ||||
15 | Colts | Brock Bowers | TE | Georgia |
Brock Bowers is pushed down the board because of the tackles and quarterbacks. A team could end up trading up for him, but I don't think the Colts would pass if he were there. He is a perfect complement to this offense. | ||||
16 | Seahawks | Graham Barton | C | Duke |
The five-position flexibility is a special factor that makes Barton the top Center on most boards. He played left tackle at Duke the last three seasons, but started at Center as a freshman. His build makes him likely a better fit inside. Teams are trying to find ways to carry more players, and having someone as versatile as Barton is unique. He is far more athletic than Powers-Johnson and fits the scheme in Seattle well. | ||||
17 | Jaguars | Terrion Arnold | CB | Alabama |
Terrion Arnold could end up being the first corner in the class. Any doubters were hushed after seeing him at the Senior Bowl and then again at the Combine. | ||||
18 | Bengals | Byron Murphy | DL | Texas |
The team really missed D.J. Reader last year. Look for them to fortify the interior defensive line. | ||||
19 | Rams | Jer'Zhan "Johnny" Newton | DL | Illinois |
Los Angeles just watched Aaron Donald leave, and they know that there is no replacement for him. But you still have to try, and this defense puts a premium on the interior defensive line. Pair up Johnny Newton with Kobe Turner, and let's go. Newton offers pass rush and game-changing quickness. This position is getting paid in free agency and will go higher in the NFL Draft. | ||||
20 | Steelers | Troy Fautanu | IOL | Washington |
Fautanu has been rumored to be the top Center in this draft. His measurements lean towards him, possibly moving inside. We saw him play well outside, and a team might put him there first. But he likely moves inside, and we know the league is paying guards. Pittsburgh has needs on the offensive line, and they will do their best to put out their best five. Fautanu likely starts day one at center for them. | ||||
21 | Dolphins | Olumuyima Fashanu | OT | Penn State |
The Miami Dolphins lost a ton of players and they will be looking at replenishing. One major need now and in the future is a Tackle. Fashanu is an extremely athletic tackle that has natural footwork. He lacks some play strength, gets over extended, and some scouts say he isn't nasty enough. His size and athletic traits bring upside that will make him a first rounder. This could fill multiple needs with one pick as the Dolphins work to reshuffle this offensive line. | ||||
22 | Eagles | Nate Wiggins | CB | Clemson |
The Philadelphia Eagles regressed in 2023, and there were a lot of problems. Having Matt Patricia on their staff was a huge issue, but aging corners were a big part of it. They need speed and youth at corner. Wiggins fits the bill. | ||||
23 | Vikingsvia CLE & HOU | Laiatu Latu | EDGE | UCLA |
Minnesota made a big splash with getting Jonathan Greenard, but you can never have enough pass-rushers. The injury concerns are obvious, but this might be the best defensive player in the draft. Having an extra first-round pick gives the Vikings the ability to take a risk. Latu will be an interesting player that could go as high as 8 and could end up on Day 2. | ||||
24 | Cowboys | Jackson Powers-Johnson | C | Oregon |
The Dallas Cowboys are showing up to the draft without 7 starters. They have needs everywhere, and they will have to prioritize. The offensive line will absolutely be a priority, they take a traditional Center. Jackson Powers-Johnson is a big, powerful Center that sets a firm pocket. This division is stacked with good interior defensive linemen. The Cowboys need to address the Center position. Tyler Smith is likely moving to Left Tackle, and JPJ starts at Center on Day 1. | ||||
25 | Packers | Cooper DeJean | CB | Iowa |
The Packers have moved on from Rasul Douglas, and Jaire Alexander could be on the move this offseason. DeJean offers them some flexibility with a player who has played all over. He has some experience at nickel corner and played primarily outside. The word is that he likely is a nickel corner and/or a safety at the next level. His experience outside gives confidence to the team drafting him as well. | ||||
26 | Buccaneers | Amarius Mims | OT | Georgia |
I would have loved Powers-Johnson here with Tampa Bay, but Mims is a great consolation. This gives them a book-end to pair with Tristan Wirfs and depth if he were to miss time. Mims has a massive upside and could start on the right side of the line on Day 1. | ||||
27 | Cardinalsvia HOU | Demeioun "Chop" Robinson | EDGE | Penn State |
The Cardinals have multiple first-round picks. They definitely didn't expect the Texans' first pick to be this late, but they still get a good player from Penn State. | ||||
28 | Bills | Brian Thomas Jr. | WR | LSU |
Buffalo let Gabe Davis walk and then traded Stefon Diggs. They really didn't get much back for Diggs that could help them now. They will have to use their early picks to address their wide receiver needs. Thomas offers them a big-play guy with good size who could develop into a #1. If Buffalo doesn't trade for Brandon Aiyuk, look for them to go WR Round 1. | ||||
29 | Lions | Kool-Aid McKinstry | CB | Alabama |
Detroit needs to work on their secondary and find long-term options. This team has become one of the better rosters in football. They have used their multiple firsts and made great picks. But, they have not spent high draft capital on defensive backs in awhile. Unfortunately that has resulted in this being a weak spot. They fix it here with a great player with a really cool name. | ||||
30 | Ravens | Troy Franklin | WR | Oregon |
Baltimore is letting Odell Beckham Jr. walk, and Rashod Bateman is in the last year of his deal. It's not every year that a team goes back-to-back in the first round at the same position. But Franklin brings a speed element that really compliments this offense. He is an outside threat with good size and long speed. Not only does this pair with Lamar's deep ball but with Andrews and Zay Flowers. | ||||
31 | 49ers | Tyler Guyton | OT | Oklahoma |
This is a perfect fit for either Baltimore or San Francisco. A big of a project, but a player with all of the tools. Guyton has extremely long arms and a big build at almost 6'8" with an enormouse wingspan. Guyton fits in right away at right tackle and could be a potential left tackle for San Francisco. We might see more Tackles than any other position in Round 1. | ||||
32 | Chiefs | Jordan Morgan | OT | Arizona |
Kansas City grabbed Marquise Brown, and Rashee Rice doesn't appear to be heading toward a long suspension. It just comes down to depth. There is a lot of depth at wide receiver. They need a tackle, both short-term and long-term. There is a pretty big drop-off after Morgan, and this fits a big need. On top of it, they get an extra year of control on his contract. |
Round 2
# | Team | Pick | Pos | College |
---|---|---|---|---|
33 | Panthers via SF | Zach Frazier | C | West Virginia |
Carolina needs to protect their pint-sized passer. They need to get him some weapons too. Looking at the board, there are plenty of wide receivers we can get with our next picks. But, the lineman needs are plenty and I don't want to miss out. Give me a two-time state champ wrestler Zach Frazier. This offensive line needs a lot, this gives them a building block for the future. | ||||
34 | Patriots | Adonaei Mitchell | WR | Texas |
New England needs an outside wide receiver and a big-play threat. Mitchell has #1 wide receiver upside and gives them an option on the outside to pair with Demario Douglas and Kendrick Bourne for J.J. McCarthy | ||||
35 | Cardinals | Braden Fiske | DL | Florida State |
The NFL has changed a lot recently and the big guys in the middle are getting paid. We see Christian Wilkins and Chris Jones getting paid, guards getting paid. That means they are putting a higher premium on the big boys. Fiske has made a strong argument to go very early and he fits nicely here in Arizona. | ||||
36 | Commanders | Kingsley Sumataia | OT | BYU |
The only thing the Commanders were worse at than pass defense was pass protection. Sam Howell was a punching bag last year, and the offensive line needs some work. They grabbed Jayden Daniels in Round 1, and now they're going to get him a body guard in the 2nd. | ||||
37 | Chargers | Mike Sainristil | CB | Michigan |
Chargers defense got worse under Brandon Staley, but they still have some good pieces. Where they are weak is at corner and they will need to address that position. I spoke with several Michigan players at the combine, and it was almost unanimous that Mike Sainistril was the leader of that defense. A versatile corner who can play inside and out brings leadership to this team. Harbaugh is all about culture and he will bring in some of his guys to enforce that. | ||||
38 | Titans | Darius Robinson | EDGE | Missouri |
This class is full of pass rushers, and Robinson could go anywhere from mid-round 1 to early day 2. Darius is a great pass rusher with a high motor, a great fit to pair up with Harold Landry. | ||||
39 | Panthers via SF | Xavier Worthy | WR | Texas |
Carolina has some route runners with Adam Thielen and Diontae Johnson. They need a dynamic option in this offense and there is no one faster than Xavier Worthy. Bryce Young could be a huge winner on Day 2 of this draft. Can't wait to see what the Carolina Panthers do to help build around him this year. | ||||
40 | Commandersvia CHI | Ennis Rakestraw Jr. | CB | Missouri |
This team has 6 picks in the top 100, it's a huge year. They have an opportunity to grab some building blocks at key positions. Corner is a key position and a key need for this team. They spent a first rounder on a corner last year that was benched mid-year. They will have to dip back in and Dan Quinn's defense likes attacking corners. Rakestraw fits the bill with good size and play making ability. | ||||
41 | Packersvia NYJ | Tyler Nubin | S | Minnesota |
Green Bay sticks to attacking the secondary and grabs Tyler Nubin to pair up with Cooper DeJean to help rebuild this group. Nubin is thought by many to be the top safety in this class; he pairs up with Xavier Worthy in this new-look defense. | ||||
42 | Texans | Payton Wilson | LB | N.C. State |
Ryans always had multiple do-it-all linebackers in San Francisco. Look for him to try to find a linebacker in this year's draft. Wilson's injury history is the only red flag. This is one of the most fun players in this draft and defensive coordinators will be pouding the table for him. He has all of the physical tools you are looking for. On top of it, he has an unbelievable motor with great makeup to be the captain of your defense. | ||||
43 | Falcons | T.J. Tampa | CB | Iowa State |
Atlanta has a new staff and a new scheme. Raheem Morris has always had big, physical corners. T.J. Tampa pairs well with A.J. Terrell. Tampa has been a riser in the pre-draft process and has even had some first round buzz. | ||||
44 | Raiders | Bo Nix | QB | Oregon |
The Raiders paid Gardner Minshew a lot of money and they have Aiden O'Connell there. I don't forsee them moving up or trading a lot to get a quarterback. It's likely they end up going Rattler, Milton, or Pratt Day 3. But, I have Bo Nix going here and I do think the Raiders would take him if he was available here. Nix is a precision passer and would fit really well in a west-coast offense. He does really well in the R-P-O game as well. One of his best assets is his quick hands and his accuracy in the short game. | ||||
45 | Saints via DEN | Ladd McConkey | WR | Georgia |
Ladd McConkey showed off some upside and athleticism at the combine. Look for him to go early day 2 and don't pencil him in as a slot only. Ladd played outside last year as well and could move around in this offense. | ||||
46 | Colts | Adisa Isaac | EDGE | Penn State |
The Indianapolis Colts and Chris Ballard love athletes. We know Penn State has sent some great ones to the league. Isaac is a super athletic edge that fits the bill and a need for Indy. | ||||
47 | Giants | Keon Coleman | WR | Florida State |
The G-Men need pass catchers and I would not be surprised if they added more than one. They also need to get bigger at the receiver position. Keon Coleman checks both boxes and brings a different skillset to New York. | ||||
48 | Jaguars | Javon Bullard | S | Georgia |
Bullard is a rangy safety that can play all over the field. He lines up in the nickel or you can play him as the deep safety. A really fun player that brings tremendous versatility and playmaking. He will not make it out of the second round. | ||||
49 | Bengals | Ricky Pearsall | WR | Florida |
If this happens, Pearsall will be a really fun dynasty option. He takes over for Tyler Boyd and is a PERFECT match for this offense. He is a big-slot option that can play outside, take jet sweeps, and play outside. I really, really like Pearsall. He is more than just that one highlight catch. But, go watch that catch, it's pretty amazing. | ||||
50 | Eagles via NO | Kiran Amegadjie | OT | Yale |
Philly is shuffling their offensive line and they have to start thinking about their future. Just like they did with Landon Dickerson, they get Lane Johnson’s replacement. A massive tackle for coach Stout to mold and build. | ||||
51 | Steelers | Roman Wilson | WR | Michigan |
Roman Wilson to the Steelers would be a beautiful fit. Mike Tomlin had to love the comments he made before the Ohio State game about going to work. A blue-collar player that really didn't get to show off this season. He showed up big in the playoffs and a strong combine has him a big riser this offseason. | ||||
52 | Rams | Edgerrin Cooper | LB | Texas A&M |
Los Angeles has really turned this roster around fast. But, they need some playmakers on defense and Cooper is the top linebacker. He is the type of player that stays on the field at all times due to his ability to help in coverage or blitzing. | ||||
53 | Eagles | Junior Colson | LB | Michigan |
The Eagles have not poured resourced into the linebacker position and now they have needs. Last year they tried to piece a linebacker room together and it was a disaster. Colson offers them strong run support and a physical linebacker to man the middle of their defense. | ||||
54 | Browns | Kris Jenkins | DL | Michigan |
Michigan players are flying off of the board. Another inside defensive lineman goes off of the board. The Browns defense is unreal, they get even better with this pick. | ||||
55 | Dolphins | Ja'Tavion Sanders | TE | Texas |
Mike McDaniel might try to go get Xavier Worthy, but I have them landing another longhorn. Sanders is the clear-cut #2 tight end in this class. A great playmaker that does a lot of damage after the catch. The ideal fantasy landing spot for him. | ||||
56 | Cowboys | Jonathan Brooks | RB | Texas |
The Dallas Cowboys are the most obvious running back needy team. There are no first-round running backs, but they take one in the second to get their pickof the litter. Jonathan Brooks stays in Texas and the consensus RB1 goes off of the board. | ||||
57 | Buccaneers | Chris Braswell | EDGE | Alabama |
A dynamic player that offers outside pass rusher and inside flexibility. The Packers love defensive lineman and Braswell flashes upside with his first-step quickness. A really impressive athlete that could start right away as a rotational pass rusher. | ||||
58 | Packers | Christian Haynes | IOL | Connecticut |
The Green Bay Packers really have to rebuild this offensive line. The group was so good for so long, but they have some holes. Last year they had some injuries and their depth was exposed. Haynes offers them a great interior presence that can start day 1 for them. | ||||
59 | Texans | Brandon Dolus | EDGE | Oregon |
Dorlus is getting some serious buzz and making a late push up draft boards. He tested at the combine with the edge players, but is listed as a defensive lineman. He played inside last year and offers flexibility as well as some inside pass rush. Throw him next to Will Anderson and in the middle of this Texans defense. | ||||
60 | Billsvia LAR | Jaden Hicks | S | Washington State |
Jaden Hicks is such a fun player, just go watch his highlights on YouTube. A playmaking safety that can play nickel or dime linebacker. His versatility and playmaking are huge needs that Buffalo will love. They are really feeling that Josh Allen contract right now, having to let their safeties walk. Hicks will be a starter day 1 and he is a good one. | ||||
61 | Lions | Marshawn Kneeland | EDGE | Western Michigan |
This guy has been busy, 14 official visits with teams. One of the most popular small school guys. He was a local visit for Detroit, who got to see him play a lot. Kneeland is a fun player and a perfect pairing with Hutchinson. | ||||
62 | Ravens | Max Melton | CB | Rutgers |
Melton just screams Baltimore with his phsyical nature. He crushed the combine and turned heads all offseason. A really physical corner with great athletic traits, of course he will end up in Baltimore. | ||||
64 | 49ers | Andru Phillips | CB | Kentucky |
Andru Phillips got named by Daniel Jeremiah on his conference call as a great 2nd round corner. This corner class doesn't have a lot on the top, but there is some depth. Phillips is a fun player that should go early Day 2. | ||||
63 | Chiefs | Ja'Lynn Poik | WR | Washington |
We addressed the offensive line in Round 1. Now we get a 2nd round wide receiver for the third year in a row. This time we go get a speed guy and Polk has speed in spades. |
