NBA First FG Props – March 16
Charlotte Hornets vs. Philadelphia 76ers
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The surface stats all lean to the 76ers here, but they don’t tell the complete story. The 76ers have a season-long lead in the jump percentage by a meager count of 0.8%. They also have a first bucket success rate lead by 6.7%. However, that data has been heading in opposite directions.
Since Joel Embiid has been hurt, the 76ers have used a combination of Paul Reed and Mo Bamba on the tip. They’ve combined for under 50% and have seen the 76ers first bucket rate plunge. Meanwhile, since Mark Williams’ back injury, the Hornets have been using Nick Richards. Not only does he have more reps that the 76ers duo, but he’s getting the tip 56.8% of the time.
It might be a bit on the chalky side, but Miles Bridges takes an absurd amount of the early shots for the Hornets. He’s taken at least one of their first shots in each of the last three games and has multiple attempts in that span twice.
First FG Bet for March 16: Miles Bridges (+700)
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Utah Jazz
Tipoff – 9:30 pm EST
Delta Center – Salt Lake City, Utah
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
There aren’t a lot of people running out to look for the odds on the Timberwolves for first buckets. They rank 25th in the league when it comes to their success rate. However, you might have to change the tune when their opponent is dead last and 13.6% behind them.
The numbers only get better for the Timberwolves on the tipoff data. They’re 14th in the league at 50.0% and have a 13.6% advantage as well over the Jazz. All those numbers give you a good picture that the Timberwolves should get on the board first.
Twice in the last three games Jaden McDaniels took the first shot for the Timberwolves. In the other of their three games, he took the second. That kind of consistency can’t be overlooked.
First FG Bet for March 16: Jaden McDaniels (+600)
