NBA First FG Props – January 15

Miami Heat vs. Brooklyn Nets

Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Barclays Center – Brooklyn, New York
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

The Heat are hot on the first bucket right now. Part of that is that they have the league at grabbing the opening tip. Bam Adebayo gets 83.3% of all tips, which is number one for anyone with at least 10 attempts. The other reason they’re hot right now is that they keep playing teams who are terrible on the first field goal. The Nets are league average on the tip and 24th in the league in the first bucket. Should be enough to keep the Heat rolling.

I’ve been white hot in calling the Heat as of late. Just over the weekend I hit Nikola Jovic (+900) and Jamie Jaquez Jr. (+750). The pattern is really clear – the Heat grab the first bucket on the heels of an outisde shooter. While the longshot, fill-ins for injured players got the last couple, I like Tyler Herro in this one. He’s been active early and should get on the board here.

First FG Bet for January 15: Tyler Herro (TBD)

Indiana Pacers vs. Utah Jazz

Tipoff – 9:00 pm EST
Delta Center – Salt Lake City, Utah
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

The Pacers haven’t been the best in the league on the early stats. They have won both the tip and first buckets at a 47,5% clip. However, they – like the Heat – have a really easy task at hand. The Jazz are dead last in the NBA in first buckets, as the only team under 30%. They’re all the way up to 28th when it comes to tipoffs, and that should still leave a wide margin for the Pacers to win.

The last five players to score a first bucket against the Jazz have all been guards. So while Myles Turner has been hot for the Pacers as of late, I’m going to look to the back-court for a play here. Andrew Nembhard came terribly close to the first field goal last time when he got called for charging. Let’s go with a reversal of that fortune here.

First FG Bet for January 15: Andrew Nembhard (TBD)
