The college football season stops for no one, and we’re already into Week 10. It still feels like we were all listening to SGPN’s Colby Dant run through a team preview for every single FBS team just a few weeks ago.
The calendar has flipped to November, but we still have a massive slate of games from which to build an Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry.
Underdog Fantasy College Football Week 10 Higher/Lower Plays
Look for value on some of the passing stats this week. Heinrich Haarberg doesn’t make an appearance this week, but we’ve two passing attempt totals for you to lock up. We’ve also got a couple of passing yards totals and one receiving total that should help you build a winning entry.
Maryland vs. Penn State
Taulia Tagovaoiloa Higher 32.5 Pass Attempts
Penn State has one of the best pass defenses in the country. However, they also have a run defense that is third-best in the nation in yards per carry allowed and fourth in opponent rush yards per game. The only way Maryland stays in this game is if they let quarterback Taulia Tagovaoiloa sling it.
Tagovaoiloa has thrown 33 times or more in seven out of eight games so far this year. The only miss came in a 42-14 blowout win against Virginia Tech back in September.
The Penn State defense will likely choke the Terps’ run game and force Tagovaoiloa to drop back a bit more often than not. The Nittany Lions have only seen 27.9 pass attempts against per game this year, but that’s a bit misleading. Their schedule to date has included West Virginia, Delaware, Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa, and UMass. None of those teams qualify as ‘throw first.’ Maryland will need to throw the ball to stay in this game and look for Taulia Tagovaoiloa to go higher on his pass attempts total in your Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry.
Underdog Fantasy has also set Tagovaoiloa’s completions total at only 18.5. Tagovaoiloa has never gone under 19 pass completions this year. If you’re looking to double up, the numbers are in your favor on pass completions, too.
Oregon State at Colorado
D.J. Uiagalelei Higher 260.5 Passing Yards
So far this year, Oregon State quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei has thrown for 261 or more yards in three out of eight starts this year. However, Uiagalelei has gone higher in two out of his last three gets the leaky Colorado Buffaloes pass defense this week.
The Colorado Buffaloes just got done giving up 269 yards passing to UCLA’s Ethan Garbers.
The Buffaloes have the 131st-ranked pass defense in the nation and have allowed 310.4 passing yards per game. They allow opposing quarterbacks to complete 66.8% of their passes and surrender 7.9 yards per pass. To say Colorado struggles against teams throwing the ball is an understatement.
Uiagalelei has gone a long way to rehabilitate his career this year. He’s thrown for 17 touchdowns against only four interceptions, and he’s averaging 223.8 yards passing per game this year. Look for that average to increase after Saturday. Uiagalelei should carve up the Buffaloes like everyone else has and go higher than his passing yards total in your Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry.
Alabama vs. LSU
Isaiah Bond Higher 52.5 receiving yards
This is more of a pick against the Louisiana State pass defense than it is a pick for Alabama. The LSU Tigers have the 93rd-ranked pass defense in the country and have allowed 250.1 passing yards per game this year. Opponents have completed 60.9% of their passes thrown into the LSU secondary and have averaged 8.0 yards per pass.
Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Bond has emerged as one of quarterback Jalen Milroe’s favorite targets. Bond caught three passes for 77 yards and a touchdown last week against Tennessee. He also racked up seven catches and 96 yards against Texas A&M. He’s also gone over 53 receiving yards in two of his last three games.
The Crimson Tide lack a great pass offense, but they throw the deep ball to keep defenses from keying on their rushing attack. Bond is a big play threat for Alabama and should be able to get loose in the LSU secondary a few times. All it takes for Bond to go over is one or two catches, and he should find plenty of room against an LSU pass defense that has been known to allow big plays.
Look for Bond to go higher than his listed receiving yards total in your Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry.
Washington State vs. Stanford
Cameron Ward Higher 359.5 passing yards
The Washington State Cougars have lost four straight and are badly in need of a win. The good news is that the Stanford Cardinal are rolling into Pullman, WA, on Saturday, and they should bring an awful pass defense with them.
Stanford has the 133rd-ranked pass defense in the nation and allows 328.7 passing yards per game. They also allow quarterbacks to complete 68.0% of their passes and average 8.5 yards per pass.
Ward has gone over 360 yards passing in three out of eight games so far this year, but he’s averaging 316.5 passing yards per game. He owns three 400+ yard passing games this season. Ward just got done roasting Oregon for 438 yards two weeks ago, and he lit up Arizona State for 315 yards last week.
Ward should take advantage of the match-up and get over the number in a game that looks like a must-win for a team that needs wins to secure bowl eligibility. He should clear the passing yards total and go higher in your Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry.
Georgia vs. Missouri
Carson Beck Higher 31.5 passing attempts
Math is telling us to go higher on his passing attempts total.
Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck has thrown 32 or more times in five out of eight games this year. The Missouri Tigers have been known to play the Bulldogs as tough as anyone. Stetson Bennett needed to throw 43 times in last year’s Week 5 match-up.
The Missouri Tigers have been attacked through the air this year. The Tigers have faced 34.7 passing attempts per game and allow 236.4 yards per game. Part of the reason they see so many attempts through the air is because their run defense is ranked 33rd in the nation.
Beck airs it out more often than most would think. He’s gone over 300 yards in half his starts and hasn’t been lower than 261 yards in a game this year. The Bulldogs aren’t afraid to sling it, and Beck will likely be asked to throw more than 31 times on Saturday. Look to go higher on his passing attempts total.
