Connor Bedard is the newest young face of the NHL. The Chicago Blackhawks won the honor of drafting the 18-year-old phenom, and the young star is already a household name.
The hype for Bedard ramped up into the season, and it hasn’t really gone anywhere. He’s single-handedly putting the Blackhawks on the map — and on national TV games.
Bedard is off to a decent start this season, with three goals and two assists for five points in his first eight games. It’s been especially impressive given the Blackhawks’ tough schedule to open the season. They’ve had one of the hardest schedules in the league, including two games against Vegas and Boston.

Bedard is still very much the odds-on favorite to win the Calder Trophy. If you have BetRivers or another Kambi book, you can find him as low as -143. However, he’s as high as -175 (or more) at BetMGM or elsewhere.
While betting on longshots is a viable strategy in this market as well, the hype for Bedard alone will inflate his odds dramatically once he has his first great stretch of hockey.

Bedard has three goals in eight games. That gives him an 82-game pace of 30.75 goals, so this line is pretty spot-on. However, given the quality of competition, Bedard’s three goals — coming against Boston, Vegas, and Vegas again — isn’t anything to sneeze at.
If I wanted to make one bet on Bedard, it would be the Over 31.5 goals. He’s already nearly on pace for that despite playing tough competition and with lackluster linemates.

Bedard’s five points in eight games have him on pace for just 51.25 points in a full 82-game season. The oddsmakers obviously expect Bedard to pick it up as the season moves along and Chicago plays easier opponents.
The points should come for Bedard, but the Blackhawks need to find someone else that can contribute on the top line.
