Underdog Fantasy Daily Pick’Em Entry – September 22

Charlie Morton – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

It may come as a surprise, but the Nationals are actually doing quite well in the strikeout department. That doesn’t mean I can’t get behind Charlie Morton, who has been on fire with strikeouts lately. He’s had at least eight strikeouts in four of his last six starts. The only times he didn’t hit that mark were shortened outings (only four innings) due to getting hit around a bunch. I don’t think the Nationals’ bats get to him, and therefore, I trust that strikeout mark.

Dane Dunning – Higher than 1.5 Walks Allowed

Sometimes, when you go higher on a walks projection, it’s because you’re fading that player. While I am fading the control of Dunning here, I also think he’ll throw well enough that he’ll pitch deeper into the game and get more chances to clear this bar.

As mentioned before, his control has not been so hot. He’s walked at least two in each of his last four starts. Additionally, he’s getting a team that lives and dies by the three true outcomes. Seattle is 13th in the majors in walks and has been walking more frequently in their last three.

Sawyer Gipson-Long – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

Gipson-Long may not have a long track record in the MLB, but the strikeout numbers look good early. He nabbed five over five innings in his debut, and although he went no longer in his second start, he managed 11 in that one. Now he gets the lowly Athletics, who are in the bottom third of striking out. They are averaging 9.2 batter strikeouts a game and struck out 12 times last night.
