Stanley Cup Final Game 2 Picks & Best Bets
The opening game of the Stanley Cup Final was a back-and-forth affair. The Panthers opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal, only for the Golden Knights to tie the game up before the end of the first period.
It looked like the Panthers were going to take a 2-1 lead early in the second period, but Adin Hill made a terrific stick save to stone Nick Cousins in front. The game remained tied past the midway point of the period until Shea Theodore scored his first goal of the playoffs to give Vegas a 2-1 lead. However, Anthony Duclair scored in the waning seconds of the second to tie things up.
Unfortunately for Florida, it was all Vegas in the third period as the Golden Knights scored thrice — including an empty-net goal — for the 5-2 win.
The game was much closer than the final score indicated, though. Per Natural Stat Trick, the expected goals at 5-on-5 play were 2.38 – 2.28 in favor of Florida. The Panthers outshot the Golden Knights 28-23 in the game at 5-on-5.
The Panthers were the play in Game 1, and now we’re getting 10 more cents on them with the line up to +120 from +110. I will happily double down on the Panthers in Game 2.
I also expect things to tighten up a bit defensively. It was a 2-2 game through two periods, and there were fewer than five expected goals at 5-on-5 play. Grab the Under 5.5 at +100, or shop around for the Under 6 (-120)
