Nolan Smith – NFL Rookie Draft Profile
Background
Height – 6’2″
Weight – 238 pounds
The 5-star recruit and combine darling returned from a pec injury that cut his 2022 season short. Smith has the skill set of a sideline-to-sideline type linebacker. He did show some ability to rush the passer but is definitely not where he will make his money. He had the following accolades during his time in Athens.
2022
Preseason watch lists for the Outland Trophy (nation’s top interior lineman) and Bronko Nagurski Trophy (nation’s top defender)
Second-team pre-season All-America selection by Athlon Sports
2019
Co-winner of Defensive Newcomer of the Year
Linebacker Pros
Athleticism
Smith proved at the combine that he has the athleticism to excel at the next level.
Play Recognition
Has the play recognition to be a great player against the run and in zone coverage.
Coverage
He has shown he can handle pass coverage. He was the top-rated cover LB at Georgia.
Linebacker Cons
Pressure
He showed us flashes of getting pressure on the Quarterback but lacked the consistency we would like to see. Mostly because of injury this year.
Angles
Plays with quite a bit of aggression. Sometimes this gets the best of him, and he misjudges angles.
Eat a Sandwich?
Smith could stand to put some weight on, but this con is a little bit of a reach. His size didn’t affect his play strength in the SEC and likely won’t affect him at the next level.
