USFL Week 7 Inactives and Practice Squad Roster Moves

We’ve made it to Week 7 in the USFL.  In its first year, the league has had a lot of competitive games, great catches, hard hits, and great football.  Fans have been treated to last-second wins, one-handed catches, and good football on both sides of the ball.  However, as the season progresses, so does the wear and tear on the body, and the injuries pile up.  This week we saw two starting quarterbacks get cut from their teams, and then picked up by another team the same day.  Also, a starting quarterback has been added to the USFL Week 7 inactives report.  Let’s take a look at all the action and remember to check back as updates are made to the inactives report.

One of the biggest names on the USFL Week 7 inactives report is De’Andre Johnson.  Johnson has been a very consistent quarterback for the Generals as well as a very consistent quarterback for fantasy football managers.  The Generals do have Luis Perez who has seen game action, but it is very obvious that Johnson runs the offense more effectively, mainly due to his scrambling ability.  Generals picked up Kyle Lauletta after he was dropped as an insurance policy.  He will most likely back up Luis Perez this weekend.  The Tampa Bay Bandits don’t have as many impacts on their inactives report.  One of the biggest things to keep an eye on is running back Tra Minter.  The Bandits running game has been less than stellar, so it will be interesting to see if Minter will be able to get off the inactives report to contribute.

The Michigan Panthers released Shea Patterson this week and the New Orleans Breakers were quick to pick him up in advance of their game against the Panthers.  However, Patterson won’t make his Breakers debut this week as he finds himself on the USFL Week 7 inactives report.  The other main takeaway from the Breakers’ inactive report is that Larry Rose will miss another week of football, which means an expanded role for Anthony Jones could continue into a second week.  The Michigan Panthers Week 7 USFL inactives report also has a running back on it.  Stevie Scott will miss his first game this season, meaning Reggie Corbin will continue to be the workhorse with Cameron Scarlett serving as backup.

The Stallions will be without a few playmakers at wide receiver. Birmingham will be without WRs Peyton Ramzy, Adrian Hardy, Carlos Henderson, and Marlon Williams. Look for Victor Bolden and Osirus Mitchell to see the most work in the wide receiver room. Cary Angeline is an intriguing fantasy option from the tight end position as well. Their defense will also be a little shorthanded with Scooby “Sharkdog” Wright is on the USFL Week 7 inactives report.  The Maulers will be operating their offense without RBs James Gilbert and WR Tre Walker. In the absence of Walker, Bailey Gaither will have increased value this week. By releasing Kyle Lauletta, the Maulers have declared the Maulers to be Vad Lee’s team going forward.

The Stars will once again be without star quarterback Bryan Scott. We will be getting another week of Case Cookus. Cookus has held his own in the absence of Scott and is worth a DFS and fantasy play this week in a pinch. Diondre Overton and RB Paul Terry are also on the USFL Week 7 inactives report.  Therefore, look for WR Jordan Suell, WR Devin Gray and RB Matt Colburn to see an increased workload this week’s game. Tyler Simmons will be inactive for the Gamblers this Sunday. Look for Isaiah Zuber and Anthony Ratliff-Williams to seem the majority of the targets in the passing game. As usual, Mark Thompson is the offensive playmaker you want in your lineups from the Gamblers. The Gamblers are at their best when Thompson is fed early and often.
