Penn State heads to Philadelphia to face Temple as a road favorite laying 23.5, with the total set at 49.5. The guys broke this one down on the College Football Picks Week 2 show, and all three came out on the same side of it.

Penn State vs Temple Odds

Penn State is favored by 23.5, and the total sits at 49.5. On air the guys also read the moneyline prices: Temple was out around 12-to-1 (+1200) as a live longshot, and a couple of them talked about sprinkling the first-half moneyline as a small-ticket play.

Our Picks

This one was unanimous. Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric), Sean Green (@SeanTGreen), and Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) all took Temple +23.5.

The case on the show was that 23.5 is a lot to lay on the road, even after the Nittany Lions put it to Marshall last week. The venue did some of the work: this game is at the Eagles’ place in Philly, not a Beaver Stadium whiteout, so the crowd edge shrinks and the home dog gets a little life. The guys flagged Temple’s two-quarterback situation as a red flag against the Penn State defense, and noted that transfer Jackson Smolick went 4-of-6 for 57 yards in half a game while Kevin Mason ran for 158 and two scores. With Penn State looking at Buffalo next and no obvious look-ahead trap, they still thought the number was too big and grabbed the points, and a few admitted they might be getting a little cute doing it.
