NFL Week 12 Preview: Odds and Betting Trends

Two teams that closed out Week 11 in prime time will square off in one of the biggest matchups of Week 12 on Sunday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-4) host the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (9-1) as consensus 3.5-point home underdogs on the NFL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

This is just the third time in 2020 that quarterback Tom Brady and the Buccaneers are listed as underdogs and the second at home after they fell 27-24 to the Los Angeles Rams as 4-point favorites at sports betting sites at Raymond James Stadium on Monday Night Football.

Tampa Bay crushed the Green Bay Packers (7-3) as 2.5-point home dogs 38-10 back in Week 6, as Brady outdueled Aaron Rodgers in a battle of NFL MVP candidates and future Hall of Famers. Now the new MVP front-runner Patrick Mahomes comes to town with Kansas City off a 35-31 win over the Las Vegas Raiders as a 7.5-point road favorite on Sunday Night Football. The Chiefs bring a seven-game road winning streak into this game versus the Bucs, and they have also gone 18-1 straight up and 15-4 against the spread in their last 19 overall.

Green Bay is also coming off a 34-31 road loss to the Indianapolis Colts (7-3) last Sunday as a 1.5-point underdog, and the NFC North leaders are hosting the skidding Chicago Bears (5-5) next as 8.5-point home chalk on Sunday night to continue the longest divisional rivalry in league history. The Packers have gone 4-0 SU and ATS in their last four prime-time games, and the Bears have dropped 10 of the past 12 road meetings SU while going 5-14 ATS in the previous 19 in the series overall according to the OddsShark NFL Database. Chicago is also riding a four-game losing streak overall (1-3 ATS) since surprisingly starting the season at 5-1.

Week 12 betting action in the NFL will kick off on Thursday with a trio of Thanksgiving games, starting with the Detroit Lions (4-6) hosting the Houston Texans (3-7) as 3-point home underdogs. The Dallas Cowboys (3-7) will then host the Washington Football Team (3-7) as 3-point home favorites before the Baltimore Ravens (6-4) visit the unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers (10-0) as 4.5-point road underdogs in a pair of divisional matchups to finish up Thanksgiving.

Three more key divisional games of note on Sunday include the Colts (7-3) hosting the Tennessee Titans (7-3) as 3.5-point home favorites for the AFC South lead, the Miami Dolphins (6-4) visiting the winless New York Jets (0-10) as 7-point road chalk in the AFC East and the Los Angeles Rams (7-3) taking on the San Francisco 49ers (4-6) as 7-point home favorites in the NFC West.

The Rams are currently tied for the division lead with the Seattle Seahawks (7-3), who end Week 12 by visiting the Philadelphia Eagles (3-6-1) as 5.5-point road chalk on Monday night.
