College Football Pick Of The Day (October 7th): NCAA Week 6 Spread Pick

For today’s college football Week 6 pick of the day, I’m looking at the Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma. Number-1 ranked Texas is laying eight points on the road against Oklahoma.

Texas is 4-0 and scoring 33.3 points per game while allowing just 13.3. Arch Manning has thrown for 862 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. They run more of an efficient offense as opposed to an explosive one. However, the Longhorns have not been asked to cover a number this size against a defense that can take that passing game away.

Oklahoma is 2-2 after a 41-13 loss to Georgia. The offense is a bit of a problem. They’re only scoring 22 points per game and rushing for only 99 yards per game. John Mateer has thrown for 883 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions. This is a desperation spot for Oklahoma.

The good news is, their defense is legit. The Sooners allow 16 points per game and excel against the pass. They held Michigan to just 17 points and New Mexico to 6. Georgia is the outlier. However, we all know that Georgia’s brand of football is something special.

Last year, Texas routed them 23-6. This game will be at a neutral site, although I don’t know if it matters. Oklahoma’s pass defense is good enough to keep this one close. On top of that, if they have any hopes of making the CFP, they have to try and find a way to win this game. I don’t know if they win it, but I do think they stay in it until the very end.
