Ryan’s problem is the team doing the laying. In his words, the Vikings are a sketchy offense at best when they have Justin Jefferson, and he raised the possibility that they won’t have him. Per the show, Minnesota is 3-0 without topping 246 net yards in a single game.
Miami’s flaws got a fair hearing first. The opening take on the Dolphins was blunt: they aren’t good enough throwing the ball to be a garbage-time darling, and the idea of them beating anyone on 12-play drives didn’t seem realistic. Per the show, Miami came in 0-3 straight up and against the spread, facing a Vikings team that was 3-0 both ways.
Sean heard all of that and went to the window anyway. He’d told himself he was done taking the Dolphins. He could see the case for Minnesota, with the Brian Flores revenge game and a defense that keeps pressuring the quarterback, and said he still couldn’t do it. His angle is that teams starting 3-0 against the spread aren’t good in this spot. He also had Kyler Murray’s history as a double-digit favorite on hand: twice by Sean’s count, 1-1 against the spread, with an outright loss to the Lions in 2021. “This is the last time though, I swear,” he said.
Ryan’s way to beat a Brian Flores defense is the one he keeps repeating: pound the rock. He thinks the power running game from Ollie Gordon might be what Miami needs. His own prediction had Miami going up early, knocking Kyler out, and the backup quarterback taking care of business. Sean admitted he’d expected Ryan to talk him out of the Dolphins. He didn’t, and the segment’s last word on the favorite was “You laying 10 points with Kyler? Are you kidding me?”
