Chicago Cubs vs Cincinnati Reds

Start Time: 6:40 PM EST

Despite the lateness in the season (less than two weeks to go), only eight teams have been mathematically eliminated from qualifying for the MLB playoffs. The Cincinnati Reds are one of those unlucky teams. After winning 83 games last season and making a rare playoff appearance, the 71-82 Reds have taken a step back in Year 2 under skipper Terry Francona.

There are no such concerns in Wrigleyville, as the Chicago Cubs are playing at pretty much the same level they did last season, when they made their first return to the postseason since 2020. The 85-68 Cubbies are a lock to make it back-to-back playoff appearances this season, but will have to settle for a wild card berth because they aren’t catching the first-place Milwaukee Brewers.

But Chicago will have no trouble catching and beating Cincinnati tomorrow on their home turf. The Cubs are a very solid road team, posting the seventh-best away record in the majors (40-35). Combine that with the Reds’ weak home play (37-41, sixth-worst in the majors), and I think you have yourself a strong bet on the Cubs on the moneyline Saturday evening.
