MMA Regional Pick of the Week: KSW 121
KSW Heavyweight Fight: Štefan Vojčák vs Marcin Wójcik
Card Start Time: Saturday (9/19), 12:00pm EST (Internet PPV)
In the world of MMA – particularly regional MMA – it’s hard to have something as constant as Phil De Fries. The British heavyweight won the KSW title back in 2018 and has since defended it 14 times. His effort for title defense number 15 was set to be this month with a spinal injury derailing things. Now we’ll see an interim title fight between a pair of his former foes in Saturday’s main event.
Despite the close line, everything is pointing towards Štefan Vojčák to be crowned the new champion. Firstly, he was the one scheduled to fight De Fries already. As a result, he’s had a more complete training camp and should be the more locked in fighter.
In addition, we’ve also seen just how strong Vojčák can be. In their first fight, he hurt De Fries on the feet and was even able to get some grappling going. That’s a testiment to the power he brings on the feet. Given that Wójcik has recently fought down at 205lbs and is likely to be giving up quite a bit of size in this one, that aspect is just too hard to overcome.
