The Washington Commanders enter 2026 as one of the NFL’s hardest teams to price. One season after reaching the NFC Championship Game, Washington crashed to 5-12 as injuries, defensive regression and an aging supporting cast exposed nearly every weakness on the roster.

On the latest Stephie Smalls Show, Stephie is joined by Moneyline Mac of The College Experience to decide whether last year was a temporary disaster or the beginning of a larger problem.

Everything starts with Jayden Daniels. Mac believes Washington can return to the playoffs if Daniels stays healthy, but his concern level about the quarterback’s durability is “an 11.” The Commanders also face a brutal opening schedule, making a fast adjustment to their new offensive system especially important.

There are reasons for optimism. Washington added explosive linebacker Sonny Styles, rookie receiver Antonio Williams, running back Kaytron Allen and tight end Chig Okonkwo. Stephie believes Okonkwo is a legitimate breakout candidate and could become one of Daniels’ most dependable targets. She is much less excited about another supposed Terry McLaurin “breakout” at age 31 and prefers the under on his 950.5 receiving-yard total.

The defense remains the biggest question. Dan Quinn’s unit has finished near the bottom of the league in key categories, putting pressure on new coordinator Daronte Jones to create more disruption, pressure and turnovers.

The betting case is clearer. Washington’s win total is 7.5, and both Stephie and Mac lean over. Mac projects a 9-8 finish, a playoff berth and a real chance to win the NFC East. He also likes Daniels for Comeback Player of the Year.

The Commanders may not be a Super Bowl team, but in a division with no trustworthy favorite, a healthy Daniels could make Washington dangerous again this season. That makes Washington one of football’s most intriguing futures bets.
