While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. MMA Regional Pick of the Week: RIZIN Landmark 14
RIZIN Heavyweight Fight: Ryo Sakai vs Satoshi Kamiyama
Card Start Time: Saturday (6/6), 12:30am EST (Internet PPV)
Japanese MMA has always been one of the very best places to catch a heavyweight fight. There is a storied history of fun matchups and tournaments that get the fans up early in the morning. While this one might not have all the fan fare, it’ll be a fun fight with an advantageous line.
Satoshi Kamiyama (who is sometimes referred to as Takakenshin), started his career in the world of sumo. He had some early momentum in the sport, but hit a ceiling and later left after a positive test for cannabis. He quickly turned to the world of MMA and has had an opposite trajectory. After a really slow start, he’s found his footing with a mixture of craft boxing and athleticism. That’s led him to a 3-1 record in his last four fights – all of which came by TKO inside of two rounds.
His opponent, Ryo Sakai, has some of the same power that Kamiyama brings. However, the big difference will be the speed. Sakai is much more of a plodding striker, who relies on his big hands to end the fights. That’s cost him against younger and faster fighters in his recent fights. I expect that will be another problem for him here.
