The Red Sox and the Braves gave us an early pitcher’s duel on Tuesday, as expected, but an early solo homer cost us the NRFI. Now, we have some NRFI bets for May 27.
Wednesday is the final day for a lot of these series. We dug through it all and picked out the winners. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 27
Los Angeles Angels vs. Detroit Tigers
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, MI
Broadcast – MLB TV
On the bump in our first NRFI selection is Casey Mize. Mize has been lights out this season. He checks in to this one with a 2.47 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 43.2 innings. However, he’s been even more locked in over his last five games. In that span, he’s thrown 27.2 innings and allowed just five earned runs (a 1.63 ERA). Now he has the pleasure of facing an Angels team that ranks in the bottom third of the league in run scoring. They are putting up just 4.02 runs per game and this is unlikely to help them much.
In the bottom of the first, we’ve got another arm that is putting up numbers this year. Jose Soriano has a 2.44 ERA on the year and ranks in the top ten of MLB in strikeouts with 74. Those numbers should trend in the right direction with Detroit at the plate. They are one of the few teams that have struggled more at the plate than the Angels have. They rank 27th in the league in runs scored with just 3.83 per game. In fact, they are one of just six teams who have not managed to crack the 4.00 runs per game mark.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 27: No (TBD)
Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Rate Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV
In this one, we have a brand new arm on the bump. David Sandlin has been called up to make his very first start of his career. While that might scare away some NRFI bettors, you have to like what we’ve seen from him in Triple A this year. After a delayed start to the season, he’s logged 16.1 innings and racked up 26 strikeouts. Additionally, he’s allowed just one earned run all year. Minnesota has been below average in terms of first inning run scoring this year, which should allow the young righty to find his groove early.
We’ll leave one rookie to visit another in the bottom of the inning. Connor Prielipp is toeing the rubber for the Twins on Wednesday. While he struggled a bit in his last start, he was lights out prior to that. Each of his five starts prior had seen him leave having allowed two or less runs. He’s also racked up 30 strikeouts in just 29.0 innings. The White Sox are outperforming what was expected of them this year, but I expect that to come down to Earth in the coming weeks. Prielipp should help expedite that on Wednesday.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 27: No (TBD)
