MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – March 27

Detroit Tigers vs. San Diego Padres

First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
Petco Park – San Diego, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV

In the top of the first, we’ll see Michael King in action for the first time this year. He looked great down the stretch last year, allowing two or less runs in ten of his last 12 games. He may have had a few issues with the long ball during Spring Training, but I expect him to be able to give us a clean frame with the Tigers in town. Plus, Detroit is hardly a team that has a bunch of pop at the top of the order. Their top three hitters for this year combined to hit just 55 dingers in 2025 – not exactly what you’d expect at the top. King being able to keep them in the park should make the NRFI even easier.

Framber Valdez gets the ball in his second game as a Tiger. After Tarik Skubal shut things down in the first game, he looks to do a similar service against this Padres’ team. He looked good out of the gate to start last year. He held the Mets to no runs in 7.0 innings to open up his 2025 campaign and I like a similar performance here. San Diego was a below average team in the first inning last season and they did not look the part in their season debut either. They recorded just five total hits and didn’t score until the 6th.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for March 27: No (TBD)

Cleveland Guardians vs. Seattle Mariners

First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
Oracle Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – MLB TV

We rode this one on Opening Day and now we’re looking to it again on Friday. All the same facts apply regarding the Guardians offense. They ranked 28th in the league in run scoring during 2025 and did little to bolster what they had going on. Additionally, they’ll face George Kirby, who really found his way late last season. He faced Cleveland twice during last season. In both of those games, he gave us a clean first inning and I expect him to do it again here.

In the bottom of the first, we ge a Mariners team that had a resurgence last season. Despite that, they were still below average in the first inning and finished in the top five of offensive strikeouts. That’s not going to be a good look when Gavin Williams comes to town. The big righty has some big strikeout stuff – finishing 27th in the league last season in Ks. That should help him if he does run into any jams here and should make the NRFI cash for us.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for March 27: No (TBD)
