Super Bowl LX Best Bets – Exotic Props

What Will the Coin Toss Be?

This bet has to feel like the one that is closest to actually being 50/50. After all, the term coin toss is a literal term for something that could go either way. However, if we look at the historical odds, we have a pretty clear indication of which way this thing should fall.

To start, the recent trend has favored tails heavily. In the last dozen years, tails has been the correct call in two-thirds of them. That’s already much better odds than the books seem to indicate. Additionally, with tails having been correct last year, we are due for another back-to-back. In the last 25 years of Super Bowl coin tosses, there have been the same number of repeats as there have been one-offs. We’ve seen three one-offs in a row, which feels like it’s time to get to a repeat.

Plays tails on this one – it hardly ever fails.

National Anthem Length?

The bookmakers have the line set on 2:03 for the National Anthem this year – which will be sung by Charlie Puth. Once upon a time, the over would have seemed like a gift here, but the trend lately has been a shorter opening to the game. Between Superbowl XLVII and Super Bowl LI, we had five straight renditions go over the two minute mark. However, in the eight that have followed, they have only gone over two minutes in three of them. Of those three, only one of them went over 2:03 and that happened to be a duet.

When you add in that country musicians tend to be on the longer side, we can feel even better about the fact that Puth should be close to the mean. And that number should be well under the mark set here.

How Many Musical Guest Will Appear at Halftime?

The line for this one comes at 3.5, and we’re going to look to the over. Bad Bunny was last on the Super Bowl halftime show back at Super Bowl LIV. In that show, five different people performed. You would have to imagine as someone who was the beneficiary of getting the extra shine thanks to Shakira back then, he would look to return the favor to some other up and coming musicians as well.

In addition to that, there are also lots of indicators that suggest more than 2.5 guests. If you look at the last two years, Kendrick Lamar had four guests and Usher had six – along with an entire marching band. It seems that the only recent performance that didn’t include five or more musicians – outside of the pandemic year – was Rihanna. That seems to be the outlier in recent years and with scrutiny on this year’s version, you have to imagine he’ll try to blow it out.
