While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Cage Warriors 199
Cage Warriors 199 Flyweight Fight: Shaj Haque vs Nicolas Leblond
Card Start Time: Saturday (12/6), 1:00pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
It’s not often that you get a regional champion like Shaj Haque at so close to even money. However, as I said on the MMA Gambling Podcast this week, it’s clear that the books and pundits believe that the shelf life of a 35-year old champion must be short. My question is, has Haque given us any idication that that is true?
The quick answer is no. Haque has shown that he is not slowing down in the slightest. He’s coming off his most impressive performance against Jawany Scott, where he not only hung with the younger fighter, but arguably put it on him in the championship rounds. His cardio has’t shown any signs of fading and he now has nine total title fights over his career. I’m not expecting the dropoff to come in the tenth here.
In addition, I also think he’s a tough matchup for Leblond. While Leblond likes to move forward, he can overreact to the feints early on and have trouble with the counters when he first starts to commit. With Haque being the type of fighter who finds his footing early, Leblond may be behind a couple of rounds before he really starts to find his range. Plus, as we already stated, Haque continues to do good work into those championship rounds.
As a result, I feel you’re getting a great value on the champ with a number that continues to fall for us.
