MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 14

Kansas City Royals vs. Philadelphia Phillies

First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Citizens Bank Park – Philadelphia, PA
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Royals get first rips on Sunday and they have been pretty bad in the first inning. They rank in the bottom third of the league in first inning scoring and they’ve been notably worse across the rest of the game. They rank 28th in run scoring overall and are one of just four teams that are averageing under 4.00 runs per game. Now they’ll try to buck that trend against Aaron Nola. Nola hasn’t been his usual self this season, but he is coming off of one of his best outings of the season. He kept the Mets scoreless over 6.0 innings surrendering just three hits. If he can do that against the Mets, he should have no issue with the Royals.

The Phillies are obviously a much better hitting team, but they are also facing a much hotter pitcher. Noah Cameron enters action on Sunday with a 3.00 ERA. In his last six games, he’s held four of his opponents to two or less runs. He’s also held five of his last six to three runs or less. While it may be a bit of a stetch to fade the Phillies as hot as they are right now, Cameron appears to be trustworthy.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 14: No (-105)

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians

First Pitch – 6:10 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV

We played this game on Saturday and the White Sox messed it up with a first inning run off of Parker Messick. They were subsequently blanked in each of the eight innings following. That’s the offense you can expect from the White Sox who rank 26th in the majors in runs. They get to face Slade Cecconi in this one, who is coming off of the best start in his career. Last time out, he went 8.0 scoreless against the Royals and only allowed a single hit. The White Sox are a pretty comparable team at the dish, so it’s not crazy to expect three early outs from him here.

In the bottom of the first, we’ll see Yoendrys Gomez toe the rubber. He has had an up and down season, but has keep the first frame empty in 67% of his starts. He should be able to add to that stat when visiting Cleveland, who despite being in the playoff hunt, is terrible at the plate. They rank 24th in first inning runs and 27th in runs overall. They’ve scored just 15 runs in their last five games (3.0 runs per game) and it could potentially get worse right here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 14: No (-120)
