Heisman Winner Hunter Could Make History on Sunday With Jaguars

Coming off a disastrous 4-13 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars should be, at the very least, more fun to watch this season. That’s because the #2 overall pick in this year’s draft, two-way star and Heisman winner Travis Hunter, will be suiting up for them. And he could be making some history Sunday afternoon.

The history in question? In the past 45 years, only Deion Sanders, Champ Bailey, and Antonio Cromartie have accomplished a feat Hunter may achieve tomorrow. That would be starting at wide receiver and cornerback in the same game.

“We’re going to have to figure it out,” Jacksonville head coach Liam Coen said on Friday regarding Hunter playing both sides of the ball. “We’re going to have to all be flexible. We’ll come up with that plan over the next 24 hours in terms like, alright, what are the exact maybe numbers we want to hit on both sides or usage?”

It appears like the Jaguars will be keeping their cards close to their chests this season regarding their prized rookie’s usage, to keep their opponents on their toes. Hunter is officially listed as a starting wide receiver and a backup cornerback on Jacksonville’s depth chart, and the team also has to keep in mind the fact that the rookie missed time in the preseason due to injury.

“He did miss some time, and so that’s something that we just need to make sure we’re aware of and keeping engaged as coaches to make sure that, if he’s getting a little lost or doesn’t know what he’s doing on a few things, well, man, maybe we need to reel it back a little and get him a rest here maybe for a sec,” Coach Coen admitted. “Whatever it is, we’ve got to be flexible, but I thought he’s done a really nice job of dedicating himself to the plan on both sides of the ball over the last few days and he was flying around pretty good today.”

Degenerate Spin: If you’ve got Hunter on your fantasy squad, it’s reassuring to hear that Hunter will be starting at wide receiver and will be an every-down player on offense. For the gambling side of things, you’ve got the green light to go hard on his offensive prop bets and a yellow light on the defensive ones.
