Philadelphia Phillies vs Texas Rangers

Which pitcher leads the majors in WAR (wins above replacement) this season? You probably would be surprised to hear it’s a player who didn’t even make the All-Star team this season – the Philadelphia Phillies’ Cristopher Sanchez. An All-Star last season, Sanchez is having the best season of his career (10-3, 2.40 ERA, 1.07 WHIP) this year for the Phils.
Now, despite all of that, I’m fading Sanchez, kinda, tomorrow as he pitches on the road against the Texas Rangers. While he can spin a gem on Friday for all I care, he won’t solve his Trea Turner puzzle.
Turner has eaten up Sanchez’s pitching over his career, slashing .400/.486/.600 over 35 plate appearances. And while Turner isn’t having that great of a season (his worst in a Phillies’ uniform, actually, and his worst year since 2018), I expect him to feast once again on Sanchez tomorrow night in Arlington.
