MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 21
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles
First Pitch – 6:35 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, MD

The Blue Jays are a team you may want to fade at the plate even during batting practice. They rank 29th in the majors in run scoring with just 4.03 runs per game. They’re also dead last when it comes to scoring in the first inning. Not only are they bad, but they’ve been worse lately. They’ve scored just 16 runs in their last five games (3.20 per game), and have been held to two or less runs three times in that span. Shane Baz has been solid enough with a 4.11 ERA. That should be good enough to keep Toronto quiet again.
In the bottom of the inning, we’ll lean a bit more on the arm. Trey Yesavage tosses for the Blue Jays as they make one last ditch effort to grab that last wild card spot. He’s locked in lately, posting a 3.37 ERA over his last four starts. That includes holding a high-scoring Washington offense to just one run over 6.2 innings. Not only is Baltimore an easier ask than that, but they’ve also been terrible in the last few games. They’ve scored just five times in their last three games – which comes out to 1.67 per game.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 21: No (-140)
Minnesota Twins vs. San Francisco Giants
First Pitch – 9:45 pm EST
Oracle Park – San Francisco, CA

In the nightcap, we’re hoping the stuff plays up for Blade Tidwell. He’s been up and down over the last month. Three of his last five starts have seen him hold his opponents to two or less runs. However, in the other two, he’s been tagged for at least five. Although Minnesota is a strong hitting team, when his stuff is on, he’s more than capable of giving us one of the former performances.
In the bottom of the inning, we can go back to fading bad offenses. The Giants have scored just seven runs in their last three games (2.33 per game). That’s good news for Zebby Matthews, who might be coming off of his best start of the year. He tossed 6.0 scoreless innings against the Yankees and only allowed two hits. He also fanned eight in that contest and was never really in trouble. The Giants should be an easier ask, especially for the first three outs.
