MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Karate Kombat 51
Karate Kombat Welterweight Fight: Oussama Assli vs Michel Martinez
Main Card Start Time: 6:00pm EST (UFC FightPass)
Karate Kombat brings an unique ruleset that lends itself to many different kinds of fighters. However, with primarily a standup style, you have to favor the fighter with actual high level kickboxing experience here.
That fighter is Assli, who has fought plenty of high level muay thai fights and has even appeared for this promotion already. He sometimes stands a bit too upright, but it helps him get to his push kicks better and his height keeps him out of too much trouble.
This all should play up against Martinez. While Martinez has flown through his competition in MMA (mostly for the promotion Combate), he fought some low level fighters. As a result, his striking, which is a bit rote, tends to look a lot better than it actually is. Assli should deal with it easily to pick us up a win here.
