MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 2

Kansas City Royals vs. Baltimore Orioles

First Pitch – 4:30 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, Maryland
Broadcast – ESPN

You have to love an NRFI opportunity following a game one that saw just one run scored. Additionally, despite the hitting in that game, the price still comes in pretty low. The pitching matchup hasn’t taken much of a hit either. Zach Eflin takes the hill first and he was fantastic in the last two months of the season. He carried a 2.37 ERA through those two months and it’s been since July 19th that he allowed more than three earned runs in a start.

The end of this NRFI relies on Seth Lugo, who was an early frontrunner for AL Cy Young. While he fell off a bit, he still finished with a 3.00 ERA on the year. His last month was a big part of that, as he ended September with a 2.28 ERA. It took the Orioles six batters to get their first base runner on Tuesday, and Lugo might make it even harder on them today.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 2: No (-145)

Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres

First Pitch – 8:30 pm EST
Petco Park – San Diego, California
Broadcast – ESPN2

In the top of the first here, you have to fade the offense of the Braves. They’re not only banged up, but even the healthy starters have been bad at the dish. They’ve only scored more than four runs in a game once since September 24th – and that was in a loss. Now they’ll face Joe Musgrove, who is on the heels of three straight quality starts. He’s only allowed two earned runs in his last three starts, and I doubt the Braves are going to screw that up.

While the Braves got beat in game one, they did continue to limit the scoring of their opponents.

They’ve only allowed 17 runs in their last six games (2.83 runs per game). While sending out a rag-tag group of relievers and minor leagues on Monday, they held the Padres to just four runs. Now they’ll get Max Fried on the bump, who looked sensational against the Royals at the end of last week. He threw 8.2 innings on just 99 pitches and didn’t allow a run. Knowing it could be his last game in a Braves uniform, I think we see him in top form here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 2: No (-150)
