MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 27

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, Massachusetts
Broadcast – MLB TV

In the top half of this NRFI bet, we get the Rays coming to the plate against Nick Pivetta. The Rays have been bad at the plate all year, but especially as of late. They’ve scored just 12 runs in their last five games and just five in their last three games. They’ll face Pivetta, who has really found his footing lately. He’s allowed one or less runs in three of his last four outings. While the lone slip up was against these Rays, he did hold them scoreless over the first three innings – which is more than we need here.

The Red Sox have been a bit better with the bats lately, but find themselves not playing for anything at this point in the season. Teams in that position often give extra rest days and get a look at some of their future stars. Even if they don’t do that, I like Taj Bradley’s chance to keep them quiet. He has allowed just six runs in his last three starts. Plus, when he faced the Red Sox earlier this year in back-to-back starts, he struck out 16 total.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 27: No (-120)

Baltimore Orioles vs. Minnesota Twins

First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Target Field – Minneapolis, Minnesota
Broadcast – MLB TV

Pablo Lopez is coming off a game where he got shelled by the Red Sox. However, he’s been mostly good outside of that outing. He had allowed just five earned runs in the last six games prior. All six of those starts were quality starts and I see another coming here. Even though the Orioles are a strong hitting team, I think Lopez gets us out of the first.

In the bottom of the inning, we’ll see a pitcher who doesn’t have the best stats on the surface – Cade Povich. However, he’s really turned things around lately. In his last four starts, he’s allowed just eight earned runs, which comes out to a 3.27 ERA in that span. Meanwhile, while the Twins bats are good, they’ve been rough early in games. They rank in the bottom third of the league in first inning runs per game.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 27: No (-125)
