Miami Marlins vs San Diego Padres

Start Time: 4:10 PM EST

And then there were 20. As of this writing, 20 teams remain in the hunt for a playoff spot this MLB season. The Miami Marlins, unfortunately for them, are not one of them. Sitting at 76-78, the Marlins have pretty much plateaued, as they won 79 games last year. So no playoffs for them.

The San Diego Padres have also plateaued, but at a much higher level, winning 85 games thus far after topping 90 the past two years. They are a lock for the playoffs, for the third straight season. Whether they actually win a series this year is yet to be seen.

However, I do see San Diego winning tomorrow at home against Miami. That’s because the Padres beat most opponents that dare face them at Petco Park, going 47-29, the fifth-best home mark in the majors. The Marlins going 31-45 away from Miami, the seventh-worst road record in the majors, also plays to the Padres’ favor. Simple handicapping, but effective.

San Diego on the moneyline is my best bet for Sunday.
