The Weekly Sweat seems to never end. Each and every week team after team makes us sweat it out until the end. We love the sweat; we live for it! Whatever version of this year’s survivor pool you are in, let’s try to keep that weekly sweat going with our NFL survivor picks for Week 9.
Last week, the Cincinnati Bengals were the popular play, and if you played them, you definitely got your sweat in! In this article, we gave the Jaguars, who, if you played, were no sweat at all. Along with the Patriots, who made you nervous early on, and the Raiders, who were truly a degen play but came home. This week we’ve got a potential play on Thursday Night Football with the Jaguars again. Don’t forget there is a game in Spain Sunday morning as well. The Bengals and Falcons will square off in that one.
The Lock: Kansas City Chiefs
As scary as a lot of these weeks have been, I haven’t felt better about a pick than I do in the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. They are coming off back-to-back losses after starting the year 0-5. They might seem like a weird team to pick, but I think it’s the perfect time. After those losses, both on the road at two very tough places to play, in Seattle and Denver, it’s back home in Kansas City this week.
In even better news, they get to host the New York Jets. The Jets started the season off looking decent, but the wheels have fallen off quickly. There may not be a bigger coaching discrepancy in the entire league. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid off of two losses against this Jets team? Sign me up.
The Backup Plan: San Francisco 49ers
If you’ve already used the Chiefs, or want to go a different route, the San Francisco 49ers are a solid choice this week. They had that ugly loss at Atlanta in a bad spot two weeks ago. But now they are coming off a much-needed bye week to rest some injured players and get them back. Las Vegas has had their ups this season, hanging with Kansas City and pulling off some early-season wins against lesser teams.
However, New England beat them 45-17, the Rams won by 14, and it wasn’t that close. They came back against Buffalo, and then pulled out a nice win as our play last week against the Jets. But this 49ers team is just a good team, fresh off the bye with an extra week to prepare; it’s a good spot.
Degen Special: Jacksonville Jaguars
We’ll call it the Degen special because it’s on Thursday Night Football and it’s a backup making his first start. But this is a brutal spot for the Baltimore Ravens. Lamar Jackson is done for the year. Tyler Huntley is done for the year. The team appears to be close to a deal to get Jacoby Brissett, but that doesn’t help them on Thursday night. Undrafted free agent Joe Fagnano is on track to make the start for Baltimore. Fagnano came in Saturday as the emergency quarterback, and it didn’t go well. The Jaguars are a well-oiled machine at this point, and maybe the best team in all of football. They’ll also take the sweat out of Sunday if you need a break!
