NFL Week 7 Recap & MNF Bombs! | Bottom Line Bombs Recap
CJ Sullivan (@CJSullivan_) runs through the NFL Week 7 recap, from the Giants upsetting Houston to the Lions and Packers fourth down fight. Then come the Monday Night Football bombs, with the Eagles plus four and a half and a Hollywood Brown ladder.
Tight End Day Hangover And A Thursday Night Cash
CJ Sullivan fought through a nasty cough for this whole Monday show, and he still had a full weekend to unpack. Tight end day was a bust for the backup tight ends. He owned the Kenyon Sadiq ladder, which died on one catch for six yards. But the Thursday night card cashed. The Bears beat the Patriots. The show also hit the Drake Maye passing touchdowns over and his anytime touchdown at +375. Luther Burden got there too. The only loss was a Pop Douglas ladder, so the lesson is obvious. They should have laddered Burden instead.
Then there was the play the Bet Detective has preached about for years. Right before halftime, the Patriots skipped the Hail Mary and threw a swing pass to Rhamondre Stevenson, who went 50 yards for a touchdown. Granted, the Bears whiffed on the tackle. But an athlete in open space beats a jump ball. He wants the same logic on last-play lateral drills at the end of games. Keep the center to snap it, then put skill players everywhere else on the field. Nothing is worse, he says, than watching guards and tackles try to pitch the ball around.
Eagles Plus Four And A Half On Monday Night Football
The Eagles are the fifth entry in the Circa Millions contest, locked in at +3.5. Then the injury report hit. DeVonta Smith is out, Wicks is out, and the line has moved to 4.5 with a total of 44.5. CJ Sullivan still likes Philadelphia at +4.5. It is a divisional home dog in a rivalry game, and Saquon Barkley is back tonight. Yes, the Eagles look broken. But this is the foxhole spot, and with the receiver room gutted, it’s Darius Cooper time. That’s the case for taking the points with a team everyone else has written off.
So why take the points? Because the Dallas defense is a joke. Christian Parker looks overwhelmed calling plays, and the Cowboys brought in Pettine to help him. They weren’t that bad against the Packers last week, but they were still bad. Tanner McKee hasn’t looked great either. Even so, laying 4.5 on the road with that defense is hard to back. And then there’s the hate. It’s always Dallas week in Philly. Against any other team on a Monday night, the fans would boo their own guys and call for Sirianni’s job. Against Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, he expects that hate to get channeled into something useful for the bet.
He kind of likes the over too. Dallas’s offense struggled the last two weeks against Tampa Bay and Green Bay. Even so, he expects Dak to be fine and CeeDee Lamb to have a big game. The best story of the segment, though, was an old Monday nighter at the Vet. It was Herschel Walker Day, and a high school version of the Bet Detective brought two Cowboys fans along in plain clothes. They quiet-cheered the Dallas plays. Then the whole section started whispering and pointing them out. The Eagles destroyed Dallas that night, and everyone got out alive.
Tanner McKee, Saquon And Hollywood Brown Ladders
CJ Sullivan is all in on Tanner McKee. His passing yards line sits at 190, and that is insane against a Dallas defense that ranks 30th in EPA against dropback passes. So the over is the play, with a mini step ladder on top. A 250-yard game pays +295, 270 pays +467 and 300 pays +930. McKee to throw two touchdown passes is +140. Then bomb his rushing yards over 5.5, because the Cowboys give up the most rushing yards to quarterbacks of anyone. He doesn’t run much. But this sets up as a McKee get right game, with Dallas Goedert and Saquon back.
Saquon Barkley’s rushing total is 65, and the Bet Detective is not in love with it. His receptions are the better angle at 2.5, so climb the ladder. Four catches pays +214, five pays +479 and six pays +1,060. Then come the long shots. Hollywood Brown has a total yards line of 11.5, and the pick is the over. His anytime touchdown is +950 and he’s 45-1 to score first. And for a tight end day hangover, Johnny Mundt is 15-1 anytime and 65-1 for the first touchdown.
Then comes the Hollywood Brown ladder, because the number is too low to pass. Tread lightly, since the Eagles have shown no interest in him all year. But it’s trade deadline week, and a horrendous Dallas defense is the perfect stage to showcase him for a deal. Even 15 yards is plus money. From there, 25 yards pays +217 and 30 pays +290. Next comes 40 at 5-1, 50 at 8-1, 60 at 13-1 and 70 at 19-1. At the top, 80 yards is 29-1. A cynic would say he’s done nothing all year, and the Bet Detective admits they’d be right. He’s climbing that ladder anyway.
NFL Week 7 Recap: A 4-0 Circa Millions Card
The Circa Millions card went 4-0, with the Eagles pending tonight for a shot at 5-0. It started with the upset of the day. The Giants beat the Texans outright 27-21, and it made no sense, which was the whole point. Cam Skattebo went off after getting disciplined for fumbling, then got flagged for running with his head. He scored twice. Then he pulled up with a hamstring in overtime and slid, so Devin Singletary walked it in against his old team. J.J. McCarthy also played the game of his life. The advice to Giants fans is simple. Get rid of Dart, because McCarthy is the quarterback of the future.
Next came the Colts at +6.5 against Minnesota. They covered, and they should have won outright after missing two field goals. The Vikings are 6-0, and CJ Sullivan thinks they might be the worst undefeated team he’s ever seen. Flores has the defense humming, but the offense is awful. So here’s the call. They lose at Detroit, at home to Buffalo on Monday night, at Green Bay and at San Francisco. That’s four straight losses and a 6-4 record. Also, the Vikings should probably trade back for McCarthy after the season, since they keep letting quarterbacks walk.
Denver handled Arizona 30-16 and covered the 4.5. Bo Nix ran in a 60-yard touchdown, but he couldn’t get over 1.5 passing touchdowns, and he heard about it. Then Sunday night was the smash play. Seattle buried Kansas City 20-3, and Kansas City never even reached the red zone. Kenneth Walker got his revenge game and skipped the handshakes afterward, which the Bet Detective wants him to knock off. Meanwhile, Collinsworth was so desperate for Mahomes highlights that he praised a recovered fumble. The Chiefs need receivers, badly, and Seattle looks like a team that will be fine.
Dolphins Beat Jets, Bengals Crush Baltimore
Miami beat the Jets 28-25 for its first win, covering as a 4.5-point dog. CJ Sullivan hopes Aaron Glenn never leaves, because bad coaches give the best quotes. His latest was about timeouts before the half, and he figured the clock would sort itself out. The Steelers beat the Saints 16-10 in a horrendous early game, and they covered. Then Cincinnati crushed Baltimore 35-13 after Lamar Jackson practiced all week and sat anyway. So everyone in the contest who grabbed the Bengals on a dead number had an easy afternoon.
The Browns came back on Tennessee after the Titans led 14-0 and got stuffed at the one. Then the walk-off field goal came after a blatant false start nobody called. He calls the 5-2 Browns a fraud anyway. Tampa Bay destroyed Carolina 43-13, so the divisional ticket on the Bucs is still alive in the NFC South. Atlanta also beat San Francisco as a 2.5-point dog. And the Rams handled Vegas 35-21, which is nice, just a week too late for the survivor entry that rode them against Arizona.
The Lions Packers Fourth Down Debate
The game of the day was Detroit over Green Bay 20-17, and it was a mess. The refs took over, and Tom Brady was furious about it in the booth. Then Dean Blandino showed up just to agree with Brady. CJ Sullivan wants officials to call the blatant stuff and let the rest go. Then the big moment hit. In a tie game with four minutes left, the Lions went for it on fourth and short from their own 20. The run got stuffed. But the Packers’ rookie kicker missed a short field goal, and Detroit drove down for the winning kick.
What bugs him is the over-analysis. Every clock and fourth down call now gets picked apart like a math test. Detroit’s defenders say going for it kept the clock away from Green Bay. But it was a low-scoring game where both defenses were getting stops, so punting and playing defense was fine too. And if you love the decision but hate the play call, you hate the decision, because that was the play. He also notes the Lions defense looked its best of the year with Branch back at safety. Meanwhile, his theory on Houston is that their defense only shows up on grass.
Into The Box: World Series And WNBA Finals
All four major sports are in action on a sports equinox day, and CJ Sullivan likes Tampa Bay tonight at -110. They don’t hit lefties well. But it’s a desperation spot at home in a 2-0 series, with Peralta on the mound. He’s also had it with replay. Game two ended on a check swing judged from 90 feet away, and he wants sports to stop treating every call like a murder trial. Then came the WNBA Finals, which he normally avoids. The Valkyries and the Dream are tied 2-2, and Atlanta once again had no venue lined up for game six.
The Dream wanted the Hawks’ arena for the finals, and the Hawks had their own schedule. So the same fight happened twice. Holly Rowe even floated Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Now game six is a Thursday doubleheader, with the Dream at 12:30 in the afternoon and the Hawks at night. That’s 9:30 AM Pacific for any Valkyries fan who wants to watch on a workday. He just wanted a first half bet. So the card closes where it started, on the Eagles +4.5 and the McKee, Saquon and Hollywood Brown ladders, with a 5-0 Circa week on the line.
